Question, isn't the bolt-thru kit compatible with LGA-1156? Is this the one you have: ACK-I5361 ilovejedd, No, I bought it a couple of years ago before the new socket came out. The version I have is the Crossbow ACK-l7751. That being said, the product product you suggested might be helpful for the ...

Let me ask the question in a different way. I really like the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 cooler and I want to keep it. What LGA 1156 motherboards would still allow me to use the 775 cooler? I am aware of a couple of ASROCK boards that have a feature called Combo Cooler Option (C.C.O.). Are there any other s...

Hey smart guy, how should I upgrade components?

I need to harvest the motherboard, processor, and memory out of my current desktop to upgrade another failing PC in the house. I am looking for suggestions on what would play nicely with my current components, cost less than $400 (not including shipping, handling, tax), and be a decent upgrade from ...

Thanks for the advice. I tend to to agree with staying away from the mini-itx boards in the office (at home as an HTPC is a different matter). b_rubenstein, if I do not use a form factor power supply what case would you suggest I use? psyopper, are you certain that the Intel stock cooler will fit in...

Small Office Computers: What case? What heatsink?

I’m putting together a few office computers and I could use some help. The machines will be sitting on desks so I want to ensure they are as silent as possible. My two main questions are:

1) What “office appropriateâ€

Does the ATI 3200 or 3300 take more load off the processor than the NVIDIA GeForce 8300 chipset? I was planning to use the 8300 chipset because it was quality IGP and it had 8-channel LPCM over HDMI. Am I wrong? To clarify I will be watching both standard and high definition through the clear QAM tu...

Is the 5050e up to the task?

I’m putting together an HTPC and I’d like to use AMD’s 5050e paired with an ASUS M3N78 Pro, 2GB memory, and a WinTV-HVR-2250 tuner . It’s main uses will be: 1) DVR (digital and HD broadcasts) using Beyond TV 2) Streaming content (digital and HD) to another HTPC using Beyond TV Link 3) And pl...

There have been a couple articles on AnandTech recently about the ATI HD 4000 series and 8-channel LPCM over HDMI. If you ever consider upgrading to BluRay and you want great 7.1 channel sound you should take a look at a 4000 series card. The articles can be found here: ATI Radeon HD 4350 and 4550: ...

I agree with Lawrence Lee. I'd add a 92mm fan in the front. I have a very similar setup with 3 HDs suspended in a SOLO with a Nexus Real silent 92mm. Its the best of both worlds... I don't second guess my case temps and I can't hear it.

I’m putting the finishing touches on my shopping list for my first silent pc build and I am having difficulty in choosing what case fan I should use to replace the tri-cool fan in the Antec Solo. Tom's Hardware did a write up about a $500 gaming PC back in mid-April. Take a look at what they did. I think it might be exactly what you are looking for. However, this was not built with silence in mind. The Antec case/psu should be ok but you would definitely have to find a different heatsink and...

Cool master just announced the Z600. http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?act=detail&id=4510 Apparently "the cooler’s X shape design retains rapid heat transfer and creates a lower backpressure, forcing air to pass through quickly." Does this design seem like a plausible new breakthrou...

When is Asus releasing the card? I didn't see a release date in the review and Asus's website has no mention of it on the products page. I found the press release here: http://www.asus.com.tw/news_show.aspx?id=10645 ... but when can I buy it?
