The switch on the wheel is purely mechanical to engage the clicky/non-clicky feature of the wheel, I really don't think it sends any signal to the computer at all and even if it did it requries way too much force to press for actual use as a button. No software app is going to help with that

I'd say it's unlikely - I have the same board and with some airflow (from a 650rpm exhaust) the heatsink is only slightly warm to the touch (I do know that the chip itself hits around 70c, but I'd interpret the temp of the heatsink "slightly warm to the touch" (= above body temp) as around 45c or so...
