Re: New SPCR design & management
Came to the site this morning after reading the ArsTechnica piece on WD hard drive RPM and sound frequency. I'm sure I read about this many many years ago on SPCR and wanted to link an old article. New site design... interesting but no real improvement over the old one, it's just flashy, the content...

Re: Yeah, this will get me banned, but frankly Scarlett...
I didn't start blocking ads until I was bombarded with 60% of the content area crowded with flashing, moving, blinking video that autostarted with sound. What I want is to be asked if would like to see ads, and then be given the choice of what type of ads I want to see. I would be more than happy f...

Old Seagate...
The looks a like like the material my old Seagate was wrapped in. I did notice a slight change in motor whine noise when I took the silicone/rubbery material of the seagate. I also noticed the temperature of the drive dropped considerably. Of course, the increased noise (in fact all noise) was compl...

I can't demonstrate my HTPC doing anything at the moment, it currently lies in pieces as I was rather disappointed Vista didn't/doesn't support my PVR-350 tv tuner. :-( I played with MythTV for a very, very long time - made longer as I had no Linux experience when I decided I wanted a HTPC/PVR! Orig...

I've got a 6600GT and it definitely doesn't provide any hardware acceleration, and I also had a FX5200, and that thing can't even drive dual-displays in windows at resolutions of 1680x1050 and 1080i (underscanned), so expect absolutely no help from older video cards. The MythTV wiki disagrees with ...

I put a 3450 in my PC when I first put it together. Despite what reviews and benchmarks would have you believe, I thought the 3d performance of the card was pretty damn good. I lent the card to a friend while he was building a new PC. He benchmarked it in 3dmark and was disappointed when it scored l...

Whilst Microsoft recommends a minimum of 3.0GHz Pentium4 for 1080p. With hardware assist from an FX5200 should make it possible on your system. Sound.. well, I dunno about that. MythTV recommends a minimum of an "NVIDIA graphics card and the equivalent of a around an AthlonXP 2000+". I had some succ...

As Nutball said, MythTV (and all the premade MythTV-distros) just won't ever be finished, its too geeky for its own good, I have lived with MythTV for over a year! I am now setting up a Vista Media Centre HTPC, its just so much nicer when everything works and you don't have to keep delving into text...

this one from Maplin in the UK works as well and it's much cheaper. Looks like it might come from the same mfg as the KillaWatt I have one of these and I think it is pretty reliable! I've tested in lamps and things where I'm pretty certain of how much power is being used. I have used it to test my ...
