Re: Samsung 830 questions

By looking at Anandtech review, it's not constant 5W, but peek. For some reason 512GB version was drawing way more than 256GB at idle. Anyway my point is that idle power draw is around normal 2.5 HDD - I wouldn't worry about it too much. Regarding Sabertooth - I haven't tested it, but 40mm fans tend...

Re: Noisy Seagate Momentus 7200.4 in lappy - need upgrade ad

I would wait for Micron C400 mSATA (128GB) SSD or the Samsung PM830 SATA 3 256GB mSATA SSD , niether is out on retail but should be soon, if you go msata route you can keep the hdd or change it for 5400rpm drive like Samsung SpinPoint SATA 5400rpm 8 MB Cache 1 TB 2.5-Inch Hard Drive (M8 HN-M101MBB)...

Re: Noisy Seagate Momentus 7200.4 in lappy - need upgrade ad

Well, I think we could stop the discussion about if I need or don't need 80GB or less, as it points to nowhere. Getting drive smaller 80GB would be just silly for me and only 120GB would offer some comfort. I've already explained game-related noise, so we can sort it out too. The important thing tha...

Re: Noisy Seagate Momentus 7200.4 in lappy - need upgrade ad

First of all, thank you for the reply. I use my computer for both work and every-day stuff. Regarding drive usage: I need around 80GB for system, dev tools, and other work-related utilities. This way 120GB system SSD should work. However, there are some bigger programs + virtual machines that we use...

Noisy Seagate Momentus 7200.4 in lappy - need upgrade advice

Hey I have Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB ST9500420AS in my Lenovo W520. It's been reviewed and got good opinions, but for me it doesn't work this way. Perhaps it's different in desktop systems, but in my laptop it's often the only thing that I can hear unless I launch CPU/GPU-demanding apps. Most of...

Thanks again. Both Alpenfohn Peter and Thermalright Shaman look really great, but also scary. 4 slots... Just now my config looks like that: Xonar | GTX260 Cooler, GTX 260 | GTX260 Cooler, GTX 260 If I install any of these monster coolers, they'll be blocked by Xonar. With 260 it's not a big deal, a...

Re: Looking for GTX 580 and ways to silence my pc

Can't you buy a fan controller that can be placed in an external 5,25" or 3,5" bay? That would make it much easier, wouldn't it? :) Yeah :) I was browsing some Internet stores looking for one. However that switch would be useful, so I don't have to adjust the knobs all the time. T-Balancer looks in...

Thank you a lot for the responses. Looking at info you provided: Tzupy Zotac - Infrared pics of back side scared me a bit. MSI - it's got low power consumption, but the cooler is a bit too noisy for me and it might be difficult to swap it ASUS Matrix Platinum - it looked pretty solid in behardware r...

Looking for GTX 580 and ways to silence my pc

Hey I've been reading SPCR quite a lot, but haven't been posting that much. Now I *have* to. TLDR - quiet GTX 580 - Asus / Sparkle / other Basically I want to upgrade my gaming rig, and at the same time reduce its noise. Just now I have GTX 260 SLI (Zotac AMP2), and they become quite noisy when gami...

The silverstone CMD01 is pretty much exactly that. Its a 5.25" bay device, with no buttons/screen/knobs (and the actual circuit board is small and can be removed and mounted anywhere), that you connect via USB. Pretty much the same as T-Balancer etc, the difference is you can get it very cheaply (a...

Fortunately, 180mm fans in my Raven aren't that noisy. I connected 3 (push/pull and exhaust) 120mm Scythe Flex fans in parallel to 1 mobo header and it's adjusted with SpeedFan. Ok, it's not the best solution, but I have loads of fan headers on this mobo, most of them can be adjusted (partially) fro...

My experience with Fan Xpert was pretty bad. I have ASUS Rampage II Extreme mobo, which has quite a lot fan headers (1 4-pin for CPU, rest 3-pin). When I set fan speeds from BIOS, they work quite well, but it's not enough for me. Fan Xpert was unable to change anything in my setup - I use 3-pin fan ...

Distributor that supplied mine stopped dealing with Enermax, so I got money back. Then I bought Corsair HX 650W. In general it's louder, but the noise is very constant, no noticeable pitch, no rattling. It's just better.

For my new rig, I got Seasonic M12D 850W and it wipes the floor with 82+.

Do you think that lapping would help me a lot too? i7 + Megahelms + S-Flex @ 1200RPM now + IC Diamond + Raven, no ducts so far Prolimatech guys claim that the base of their heatsink matches IHS surface, but I don't really know how good it is and IHS lapping sounds a lit...

There's one really-passive-heatsink solution that might work... A friend of mine uses such thing for his C2D - radiator. Completely passive = no case fans, no PSU fans / PSU in other compartment. I'd say that IFX might work, as well as Ninja, but not for OCed i7. Just stock speeds, perhaps with undervolt. Think about it as running lawnmower engine passive Vs pushing Ferrari to its limits passive. It is not going to wo...

I'm getting i7 soon too. By looking at cooler reviews, I can tell you that i7 + passive = bad combination. Duct + exhaust case fan is not really a passive option as you have fan, hehe. My recommendation - get a great tower heatsink (like Megahelms) and use 2 low-RPM fans in push-pull configuration. ...

I guess that the test procedure for CP-850 will have to be a little different as it's a non-reference PSU. I'm also a little afraid that the PSU test procedure got a bit outdated. More and more cases feature separate PSU cabinet, just like reviewed P183. In such case hotbox testing is not relevant. ...

I'm thinking about purchasing it as it seems to be pretty good PSU for computer I'm going to buy. It looks like there aren't too many good PSUs in this price range available here that would handle Core i7 and SLI.
