Re: the impossible quest of finding a dead quiet, low-power

Indeed I doubt I ever exceed something like 80 or 70W. I have actually been dreaming about the HDPlex since it has been linked, really nifty piece of kit, it looks like a much better improved PicoPSU. Main problem I have with that is, the odd shape of the DC-AC. I have been in touch with Larry alrea...

the impossible quest of finding a dead quiet, low-power SFX

hello, haven't been on this forum for perhaps a decade and god, hadn't it been very useful in the past! I am having the following PC, not the freshest on the bloc, but it is still serving me well right. I do mostly office stuff, web, photo editing, every other moon some non-intensive gaming. It will...

Re: PSU advice for a mini ITX Asus-H87I-Plus + i5 4590T + 2

thanks for the input. I should have mentioned tho that I am looking for a "typical" PSU. I had 2 Picos in the past, one running on a 24/7, lo-energy machine. not a trouble. The other Pico was feeding my desktop (micro ATX, 1 HD +SSD, no external GPU) and it was definitely unstable. When I swtiched t...

PSU advice for a mini ITX Asus-H87I-Plus + i5 4590T + 2 HD

Hi all, I am pretty much out of the inside of the latest news about pc rigs. I am assembling a mini ITX system, which will be my main PC (to use for internet, some data handling, HD video playback, photoshop and lightroom) and most of all, will be on 24/7 as NAS. Motherboard, thinking about the Asus...

basically, a G850 in idle is slightly lower Watt hungry than i3 2100 G850 at full load is relatively lower Watt hungry than i3 2100 http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/pentium-g850-g840-g620_7.html G850 for archiving and image editing is a tad slower than i3 2100 http://www.xbitlabs.com/art...

Re: low idle watt PC for photo edit and intense excel

You don't get it: you don't need that much RAM to do what you do. Firefox uses RAM because it's there. If it wasn't there, you could do the exact same thing but it would use less RAM. or it would crash and/or notify errors. Anyway, we are getting off track a bit here. I wouldn't buy 8gb ram just fo...

Re: low idle watt PC for photo edit and intense excel

@ces: thank you for your suggestions; though you got me right (with my mini-itx requirement) that I would like a compact system, I am not looking for something that fits in a pocket. Compared to a classic ATX, mini-itx is already more than enough size reduction for me, without sacrificing performanc...

Re: low idle watt PC for photo edit and intense excel

@CA_Steve 8gb ram will be for sure, that is a minimum requirement nowadays I think, especially given the low price you can purchase RAM; unless the only thing you do is just browsing! @Abula the weird thing with PCs (and technology) is that by waiting couple months something sensibly better is ALWAY...

low idle watt PC for photo edit and intense excel

Dear all, I am looking for a desktop. I have quite a nice laptop (Samsung Q320), which I modified in the year, upgrading CPU, SSD and RAM but starts to feel a little tight. Especially lately with some insane Excel sheets. What I need: a system that allows me to photo edit (from simple colour correct...

i must admit, you're really reading my mind (and really kind too!) Yes,i'll have to cut all the wires when i'll be soldering a suitable jack for pico psu,but as u said,i want to avoid any possible risk of short circuit.. I double checked the impedance and it is exactly like i told u..just 2 couples o...

help - wiring Dell DA-1 with Pico 120W

Hi! Finally I've bought a 120W Dell DA-1 adapter.. my "problem" now is how to wire correctly the Dell to the Pico.. i know the Dell has a six-pin socket, three of these are +12V and the other three are -. if they are separated, is it safe to pack'em all together to the pico jack? isn't it out there ...

where can I find efficient brick to match with Pico Psu?

Hi! this is my first post and I really hope to get some useful answer from you guys! I'd like to buy a pico -psu (more probably 90W) to feed my 24/24h pc... my big issue is: we have this wonderful, efficient DC-DC adapter, but what about AC-DC? I really don't know where to look to find an efficient ...
