Re: Super Flower Golden Green 350W PSU

If one could get a hold of this PSU, It should be a excellent candidate for a fan swap, Scythe Gentle Typhoon 800 should provide plenty of airflow and lower the noise level considerably.

Re: Modern HDDs and modern HDD-vibration dampening technique

I used some foam wedged in between drives to dampen vibrations simply cut them to cover the sides and strips to cover between the drives. You have to make sure the breather holes are clear. I have a slow spinning 120mm front fan so temperatures are not a concern. Transportation not a problem either...

You know all these issues about size, heat and vibration disappear if you use 2.5 inch drives. They come in capacities of up to 1T now. Re: Modern HDDs and modern HDD-vibration dampening technique

Hard Drive manufacturing engineers have pretty consistently stated that suspending a drive is not good for drive reliability , and technically they do not provide a warranty for such installations I've never come across any statements like this. Can you point to any references? Certainly but as I p...

Re: Modern HDDs and modern HDD-vibration dampening technique

Suspension takes a lot of space to put it simple. Take a look at the Noise Magic No Vibes III: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=539359#p539359 I have one and it is a much more solid suspension system than the one on the Antec Solo. A bit pricey though. Yeah it seems solid enough...

Re: Modern HDDs and modern HDD-vibration dampening technique

Unfortunately most cases, even those that sport some sort of drive mount dampening, are bad enough to resonate even 5400 RPM drives. Most review sites simply glance over this factor so there's been little need for improvement in the industry overall. Antec's larger silicone grommets are certainly g...

Modern HDDs and modern HDD-vibration dampening techniques

Are modern vibration elimination techniques sufficient for low speed 5400 RPM drives? I've been clinging firmly to elastic suspension desperately for 6 years now but since it makes mounting difficult and may decrease HDD reliability I'm thinking about using stock solutions in my next computer if it'...

Disappointing performance, the vents must be ridiculously restrictive. Two strong 120 mm fans shouldn't perform this badly. Up for modding?

Thanks, just what I needed. My Barracuda LP seems to have a higher rate of failure compared to many other drives but the 7200.12 are more stable according to those reviews.

Reliability of Seagate drives of 2012

My Barracuda LP just crashed after a little more than 2 years of life. Always been disturbed by the strange noise it caused, even suspended. My system-HDD, a 7200.12 500 GB is what concerns me a lot, while it doesn't make the same amount of noise it still shows the same patterns while running a diag...

Your solution. A cheaper Tj-08e and you can swap all fans for Nexus RS 120 mm.
Also apply vinyl dampening to one or two side panels and you get great cable management as well as a quiet well cooled and modern case.

Re: Suggested improvements to P280 case?

The fans themselves are smooth and quiet. The 2-speed switch is OK, too, just the position is a bit awkward. Is that true for the high speed as well? I suspect I'll need more airflow than I'll get with the low speed. If you need more airflow than low can provide, you'll never get anywhere near quie...

You can't go wrong with either :). X2000F is a better case though, more space behind motherboard tray, several compartments, 120/140 mm fans. Switch em for Nexus/Scythe/Noctua/Noiseblocker and undervolt all fans. Great airflow/cooling and acoustics. FT02 is superior when it comes to GPU cooling thou...

Building a small HTPC for a friend and with passive cooling except for two Nexus 80 mm fans. I understand it fine overpriced 10 year old design with gloss finish that looks like crap in 6 months. I'll take the Define R3 which goes on sale for $80 has more fans, more space for harddrives and no gloss finish. For $130 I would rather spend $20 more and get the P183 which blows this case away. ...

Can I just say... too little too late? Also, very expensive for what little improvement it brings. I mean, the Define R3 is superior in every way AND costs less. Antec is losing its touch. Define R3 is clearly inferior when it comes to build quality, effectiveness of fans and so on. R3 is only supe...

Excellent review. The fact that you realized the effect of the HDD-mounting before testing was great. I don't see this case as a quiet competitor because of the HDD vibrations but with few enough drives to be mounted in the 5.25 bay it should be enough for most gamers. Cable-channel is an terrific a...

Modify a Antec 300, HDD cage can be set much wider which allows for suspension. Dampen with floor vinyl or bitumen as well. Undervolt all fans in case.

I really hate what they've done with the drive-bays. Now it loses all the great features of the original P180 and becomes a look-alike of every other dampened ATX case. Quality of HDD holders seem weak as well. I do like more clearance for cabling and the cutout, great thinking. I also like the new ...

I'm sorry to say this but that is a disappointment in my eyes. Clearance behind mobo-tray doesn't look more than 1 cm at most, not enough for managing thick cables. I do get that they want to keep this and P180/P280 separated by features but they could have given it more space behind motherboard-tra...
