Re: 2TB drive, BIOS only supports upto 1TB, two 1TB partitio

Are there only PCI-E USB3 expansion cards? Is PCI too slow?

My only PCI-E x16 slot is taken by my Asus Xonar D2X :(

Is the PCI-E 1x slot designed (and spaced) to be used at the same time as the x16?

Apologies for all the questions

Thanks everyone :)

Re: 2TB drive, BIOS only supports upto 1TB, two 1TB partitio

Full speed? So I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the 2TB drive on USB3 and SATA directly into the motherboard? That would be fantastic! Almost seems too good to be true, what's the catch? Does anyone know of a good quiet fast USB3 enclosure that supports 2TB? I was thinking "I...

Re: 2TB drive, BIOS only supports upto 1TB, two 1TB partitio

Thanks guys, if when I try it I can find no other way of getting 2TB, will a USB 3 enclosure, that supports 2TB, show 2TB in windows even though the BIOS only supports 1TB? (As the enclosure has it's own sort of BIOS I'd imagine)

Many thanks

2TB drive, BIOS only supports upto 1TB, two 1TB partitions?

Hello everyone, I hope you had a good Christmas The latest BIOS for the mATX motherboard (MSI P7NGM Digital) in my HTPC only supports upto 1000GB, I'd like to buy a 2TB (WD20EARX) storage drive for it (it has an SSD system/boot drive), I'm guessing if I was to install it directly it would only see i...

What was that Samsung HD501LJ speed trick? cant find it

Im sure i read a thread about making a Samsung HD501LJ a third the capacity at 3 times the speed, i think it was compared to a raptor but without the seek speed? Can anyone find the thread or remember if it was worth it? I'd like a quiet but faster drive for my quiet gaming machine, wondering if ano...

TBH music will be on a local drive anyway really, as would 1080p, any other media played across the network will rarely need seeking and a slight delay before playing is a small price for silence :)

it will always be slower than running it on a local machine :p the question is whether it would be quicker to manually copy the exe or would the pc automatically copy the file to a temp folder on a local drive, faster than we would and deleting itself for you? or would it just be stupid and run slow...

would the slow play and seek be with 1080p only? or all media files?

Re: stream all but 1080p from 100mbit NAS?

fantastic, great info! thanks guys, exactly what i was hoping to hear :) what about installing applications from a remote pc? would they install just as fast if the exe was executed through 'my network places' as they would if the exe was first copied to the local machine? stream all but 1080p from 100mbit NAS?

Im hoping to store everything on drives in a dell SFF (100mbit) in another room and access it via a 15m cat6 cable, (quieter) would this be fast enough for everything other than 1080p?
what about FLACs to a high end stereo? (bit of an audiophile)
Cheers :)

How close you are computer also affects your hearing but one of the thing we have to remember when it comes to silent PC's 1) Noise, sound and anything related noise are subjective to the individuals. Which leads to us in 2nd thing: 2) We're all individuals. Way we hear and especially experience so...

I seriously can't hear it unless I kneel down and put my head in level with the intake vent slits on the P182. Sure, but I would say the same thing about a 550RPM fan. I definitely can't hear that from more than a few inches away . . . At least not in a normal room. Do you live in an anechoic chamb...

i agree, if we can find the quietest fan at 500rpm or 800rpm then we know which is quietest and will most likely be quietest in our own system when turned up to whatever the required speed :)

blimey, never would have guessed bigger would be faster/quieter
an SSD was my primary choice, thought i may save a bunch with a 3.5" but guess its not worth it, good enough excuse to get a 32/64gb SSD
