Re: MSI H97M ECO and G3250T CPU server build
I idle at 24,7W so no, I'm not satisfied and regret not going the NUC way with an extra external disk. Currently I'm considering getting a new i5 CPU and making a new gamer PC from the server parts and getting the NUC for a server as well as a HDHomerun for recording. It's a lot of money though, so ...

Re: MSI H97M ECO and G3250T CPU server build
you have a satellite card, right? satellite dish LNB's generally need 13v or 19v power from the sat line. We ll it's a cable DVB-C card. As far as I can tell it uses around 2 watts, but since the mobo can't use the most aggressive C level state that's a couple of watts as well. I guess the power re...

Re: MSI H97M ECO and G3250T CPU server build
Do you know if I can use one of the 20 pins PICO-PSUs on my 24 pin ATX motherboard? Some says it's fine, others are more cautious when asked. I would like a smaller PICO than the 150W-ATX as that's way overkill and will give me a higher power consumption as you also say.

Re: MSI H97M ECO and G3250T CPU server build
Upgraded my BIOS and now the CPU downclocks. It's now running at 25W idle. Because of the TV tuner card, I had to set C-state level from C6 to Auto, as all recordings would otherwise be pixelated. Before when it was set to C6, I was it idling at 22-23W. I'm not quite sure what C-state the CPU now en...

Re: MSI H97M ECO and G3250T CPU server build
Well, according to Core Temp, my CPU never downclocks then. I tried manually seting it to 800 MHz, but it didn't lower the power consumption. However the CPU was running at 70% load the entire time and everything was horribly slow even after letting it idle for 20 minutes. I then changed back to the...

Re: MSI H97M ECO and G3250T CPU server build
Ok I tried Real Temp now, enabled logging and ran it for 30 minutes. Clock.jpg At no time did I see the Core speed change from 2799.67 in the log. Should I have seen the core speed written as 800 in the log it it actually downclocked or does it only write what the standard core speed is? I have chos...

Re: MSI H97M ECO and G3250T CPU server build
CPU usage is at 0% when idling. It's been running for a few days and it hasn't gone below 27W. I checked this morning after it had done nothing the entire night. I tried manually downclocking to 800MHz but that did nothing, so I set it back to Auto. The power amanagement options I can see are: C1E s...

Re: WHS11 server upgrade - i5 and MSI H97M ECO
My ECO experiences here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=67972 I got the CPU fan to stop when temps are below 47 degrees c. Nice one. How did you manage to disable the CPU fan? Mine keeps running whatever I do. Also, for how long is it stopped? Does the CPU idle at lower th...

Re: Haswell Low Power Builds
I'm thinking of getting a 4160T CPU and a micro ATX motherboard for the most low power server possible and with an old school PCI slot for a TV card. Can anyone recommend a motherboard?

Which LOW POWER CPU to replace Sempron LE1250?
I want to expand my fileserver to also record TV, including HD. I don't think my AMD Sempron LE 1250 can handle that. However I don't want to exceed 30w when idling ( I use RightMark CPU Clock to underclock) so I need one that can be underclocked to a low idle power consumption. Which modern AM2/AM3...

Yes I'm very happy with it. I reached my goal of ~30w and it runs like a dream. I ended up with the RAM I did because I couldn't find any 800 MHz that used 1.8v. At least the didn't specify it and no hardware manufacturer reacted to my mails, so I just got bored with it all and ordered the ones I di...

After disabling sound and IDE it is now at ~31 w. The CPU is running at: 800 MHz @ 0,735v up to 2.1 GHz @ 1,1v I enabled P-state 0,2,7 and 14. 0,725v made the pc crash. Am I supposed to enable all of them? What kind of volts should it be at at maximum? 1,3? Do people only reduce max wattages when th...

smax3, thanks for the reply. I'll soon purchase the Gigabyte 740G chipset motherboard, that was reviewed here on this site and rated their lowest yet consuming motherboard, and a Sempron LE-1250 CPU and will post the results when I have it up and running. QuietOC, I can't find that anywhere in the article you provided. What I can find is this:
http://www.silentpcreview.com/article807-page10.html
Here they don't exactly praise the 780G for it's low power consumption as it uses quite a bit more than 690G.

After reading some more, I guess that the Abit AN-M2 is a contender. Just to get one thing straight: Does it matter at all that the BIOS doesn't support undervolting when I can use CrystalCPUID? Also, I read several places that the Abit AN-M2 is one of the lowest consuming motherboards, but was this...

I'm still a bit puzzled over which motherboard to choose. I cannot quite understand how a motherboard can only use 1W? For instance look at this test comparing AMD 780G to a Jetway JNC62K: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/05/20/jetway-jnc62k-geforce-8200-mini-itx/10 Here the AMD runs at 11 more...

I'll be getting the most energy efficient disks I can. I don't know it that is WD's green line? I am hoping that the AMD 740g chipset and a AMD 4050e CPU might be able to hold me at around 30 W.
