Re: Testing suspension: Need opinions

If you can fit the drives without them touching the cage I think you`re good to go. Not sure whether it will make a difference in practice or not, but I think that with the drive hanging from the top of the cage you`re increasing the tension in the cord so perhaps the first method is better. I trie...

Testing suspension: Need opinions

I have myself a Corsair Carbide 500R case and it has two removable HDD/SSD bays which can take up to three HDD's each. HDD's fit into trays which have rubber grommets then they slide into the HDD bays. Whilst this is okay, it's not great and my old Western Digital GP 500Gb drives are giving me a bit...

Re: 120/140mm fans for my Corsair H100

I would have thought that 140mm PWM fans using a splitter from the CPU would have been the best solution. Genuine 140mm size PWM fans are not particularly easy to find currently. In the UK you could consider the Akasa Apache 140mm PWM fan http://www.scan.co.uk/products/140mm-akasa-black-apache-s-fl...

Re: 120/140mm fans for my Corsair H100

Bump?

I'm also thinking of replacing my rear exhaust (120mm Scythe Slipstream 1200rpm coincidently) with a 140mm fan. The rear slot has room for one 120mm or 140mm and I can use either. Any thoughts on this?

Re: Antec ISK-300 65 and HDD vibrations

Building a small HTPC for a friend and with passive cooling except for two Nexus 80 mm fans. We choose a 5400 2.5" drive but we realize that the case lacks HDD dampening and acoustics are really important. Anyone got an idea for dampening the drive? Been considering soft silicone for normal use in ...

120/140mm fans for my Corsair H100

I have a Corsair Carbide 500R case and my Corsair H100 radiator is mounted at the top of the case where I have 120mm and 140mm fan mounting holes. Currently I'm using the Corsair supplied fans for the H100 but they're awfully noisy at startup voltage and I'm searching for a pair of fans where I can ...

Re: Is there a case that gives me everything? Quiet, cool,

I found my Corsair Carbide 500R a dream to use during setup. Cabling in my cases has always been horrific but this is passable for me :) (Seasonic PSU with 100 cables of which I only use something like 2) The stock 120mm fans are noisy but easily replaced. The 200mm fan is quiet at startup voltage a...

Airflow improvements: Corsair Carbide 500R

I don't often come to SPCR too often. The last time I was here I did a smash and grab raid on some information, ended up leaving with 1200rpm Scythe Slipstreams which lived dialled down to minimum spin up voltage (via a Sunbeam 4-fan Rheobus) in my Coolermaster Centurion 590 and provided me with pre...

Thanks for the tips. I just need to control two fans and was looking at the best way of doing it. I have seen a couple of single-fan variable resistors like the Fanmate but I learn my stuff from reading online and sometimes it's easy to miss something small or simple but can make a lot of difference...

Recommended 80mm fans

Hello, I have recently made up a nice little mini-ITX build with the Antec ISK 300-65 and an ASUS AT3N7A-I and I love it! It has become my new, main PC for online stuff, movies and general home use... relegating my "quiet" PC to gaming only. As SPCR noted in their Antec ISK 300-65 review, the 80mm T...

Apologies for the delay in replying. I decided I couldnt wait and jumped on 2 WD Green Power 500 Gb drives. 2 Drives, twice as noisy etc. but I wanted to separate programs/games from the OS drive etc. try to balance out the slight losses in response from a single drive to go to a double offering. In...

The Antec Three Hundred is probably the best cheap case around right now, particularly for gaming which is what your choice of graphics card suggests. Depending on your location, you may find the Coolermaster Centurion 590 at the same price point as the Antec 300. In my opinion, the Coolermaster is...

avoid duct tape itself, you'll have a nasty clean up job if you ever want it gone. I read the first reply, cracked out my duct tape and Ive done almost all of it. The only benefit so far is a reduction in GPU idle temp by about 3C. I still have the rear panel to do plus the fan spot at the back to ...

How do you plug up unused fan grills?

My CM Centurion 590 is pretty much set up as Id like it to be and I am trying to apply the finishing touches. I have heard that closing off all of the unused grill holes can help ever so slightly with noise and heat. How do you do it? Simple duct tape to cover the holes? Some sort of sheath? Please ...

Needing something quieter than a Spinpoint T HD401LJ

So Ive suspended my Samsung Spinpoint T HD401LG, swapped out my Slipstream 1600's for 1200's and now, after doing a little bit of ear work... I find that the noisest part of my PC is now my HDD once again. Im on the lookout for a reasonably priced drive for a gaming PC, which is quieter than my curr...

It will definitely help from a noise perspective. Do I understand you correctly - i.e. you intend to have foam covering both the underside and top side of the drive? If so your drive could easily overheat because of lack of airflow over the surfaces. Perhaps try mounting a single block of foam in a...

Sorry to resurrect my thread but I have a couple of those large foam HDD blocks from my old Acoustipack Deluxe. Would sitting an HDD on top of one of these provide sufficient vibration noise reduction and be safe? Suspension is possible but awkward. I could strap my HDD in between a foam block and t...

I am going to remove the blue washers from the HDD rack and see if I can thread elastic through the HDD Cage itself to suspend the drive.

As long as its secure and suspended, I shouldnt have much to worry about.

I don't know if it supports fan control on the new cards yet, but ATITool has done what you want for quite awhile. I did something similar for an X800 GTO2 card--took a regular 80mm fan with standard molex plug and instead snipped that off, and then snipped the header cable from the stock fan and s...

Unique GPU Fan Control Software request

As an early adopter of the HD4870 series graphics cards, I was unhappy with the cooling performance and the heat output of the card and went down the aftermarket cooling route. Thermalright HR-03 GT to be exact. With my new Coolermaster Centurion 590 case, I can fit a 120mm fan directly over the GPU...

Looking to suspend my HDD

I recently upgraded from an AcoustiPack Deluxe covered Antec SLK3000B to a Coolermaster Centurion 590 and started replacing my Scythe Slipstream 1600's. Despite not being fully changed over due to an incomplete video card mod (running a 120mm Scythe Kama off my video card), I had managed to cut down...
