You can do the same thing in rivatuner if you enable the enableperflevelforcing setting. It can actually force the card to run in only 2d only mode. I did this for a while as I am not a regular gamer. However the program has not been updated since 2009, am not sure how well it works with newer Nvidi...

You could also look into getting a Crystal HD. They seem to sell for around $50 USD
However your media players will have to have support for it.

The plastic tabs I'm referring to are on the top/bottom of the panel and lock into the main chassis to keep the side panel in place. I don't have a camera handy to take a picture.
