congrats on a long 7 years! As long as computer builders and retailers sell computing hardware that produces audible noise, I don't think SPCR will die off at all :) Ie. all those noisy PSU's, PC-like consoles with irritating fans (ie. Xbox, PS3), ever-shrinking electronic equipment with 100w+ TDP, ...

They don't seem to be branded Scythe.
That sucks. Avoid the 1850rpm like the plague, it's not quiet even when undervolted vs the 1450rpm.

I know of no one that undervolts fans and doesnt use some sort of fan controller, either software or hardware. Either they run them at 12v, or they have some sort of fan controller. So while a comparitive test at 12v may be applicable, the 7v test really isnt. Also the original question was "Do the...

aluminium mesh filters adds significant amount of noise from my experience. foam ones seem ok as long as you're not using them with the crappy plastic frames they come in.

Do the new Typhoons push more CFM, RPM for RPM compared to the other Scythes? Ok, here's a quick (subjective!) summary b/w the 3 major/new Scythe fan models. Comparison is based on 1200rpm Slipstream, 1600rpm S-Flex and 1450rpm Typhoon, vertical fan position. I don't bother @ 12v because NO fans ar...

The Gelid fans are probably quieter that the horrible TT's he had before.

If you think the Gelid's are quiet I suggest you try out ANY of the fans under the Recommended/Reference section. Guarantee you'll never go near a single clear plastic fan ever again.

Zg, since you've had experience with all 4 Scythe fan types, which one is the best in your opinion? Is it the Typhoon? Also it looks like the Typhoon has closed corners like the Nexus fans, is this true? Thanks! The Typhoons have a kind of "1/4 closed" corners; if you look carefully at the fan pic ...

Question about the Scythe fans, are all the newer ones made in China? Did you guys find the quality consistent, unlike the Panaflos? Most of the Scythe fans seem to be made in China except for the Typhoons, which are made in Indonesia (probably because the Nidec motors are made there???) I've only ...

Are you saying the Typhoons would perform better (more airflow and less noise) than the S-Flex in restrictive enviroments? I'm having a hard time in deciding wheher to buy these fans or the S-Flex's for my 2 PA120.2s. Possibly - without proper test equipment it's not possible to say definitively wh...

I bought 5 1200rpm SlipStreams and 1 of them made a clicking sound when powered up. I could even hear the clicking sound when I spun the fan blades with my hand.

Conclusion: Dud SlipStream. Should get it RMA'ed.

Sign yourself to something like PhotoBucket, upload pics there and then copy the resulting "IMG Link" here.

Do you have 3 5.25inch bays free? If so just get yourself one of these - Scythe Kama Bay, and have your HDD's setup behind that.

it might be worth a review on account of a more SPCR-centric (and interesting) examination of those dimples - maybe it's indeed a good idea that something can/should take off with other manufacturers :). Interesting features of this fan is that you can remove the entire fan impeller for cleaning and there are little "winglets" on the fan blades which are supposed to improve airflow / static pressure.
