Yeah, swapping the HD for a SSD would help some, but the HDs in netbooks tend to sip power anyway. I don't have the netbook anymore, but I remember I just changed the fan profiles and the only time it really spun up a whole lot was when I would use it to hop on WoW to mess with the AH or run somethi...

I got the 15" A model without the discrete graphics and overclocking for my wife for Christmas. She loves this laptop and the extreme battery life is liberating. She can work all day on the couch or kitchen and never need to return to the wall for power. She's never complained about the speed of th...

Re: Accelero L2 + Radeon 5770: can't make it fit

2) I would *not* run the 5770 fanless with the L2. I definitely could not run one fanless with a Turbo-module (short S1), and I think that cooler has more surface area than the L2. Turbo-module is the thin fans that you can clip on to an s1 Twin-Turbo is the shorter version of the s1 -------- For w...

I stuck an Accelero Twin-Turbo on mine and took the fans off. Temps seem to be pretty reasonable, mid to upper 40's idle and mid to upper 50's "gaming." Then again, the only gaming I do right now is WoW and that isn't very GPU intensive.

It is going to be e bit hard to have a computer case that has a 120mm fan and is shorter than 120mm unless you're going to have a top or bottom 120mm. If you are lucky slim cases use 80mm fans, if not somewhere around 60. If you keep the rpm low enough, moving to smaller fans is probably your best b...

I did something similar when I was at my parents house a while ago, though it was 2 wireless routers wired to each other since the "main" router's signal didn't go upstairs well. So, I'm pretty sure it is possible, though it might be a pain to set up.

Hooray math. I never said it was a low resolution, I was more referencing that many people assume that a 'bigger' screen needs a better video card, but my TV needs less of one than my 19" monitors. In general you don't need to run games at very high settings on larger TVs because you are going to be...

What is the resolution on the plasma? I've got a 37" LCD sitting next to me but it is 720p. I'm guessing that it is 1080p or smaller, in which case your video card choices are probably a bit overkill unless you *really* want to play crysis on full settings. You are correct, but it also overclocks mu...

Usually when people want a GPU for their HTPC they are look for something close to a 4670. I think it would be quite challenging to get any of those cards quiet enough for an HTPC since they all use quite a bit of power. Also, if you have enough airflow or opt for water cooler for those cards, it se...

Eh, that will help some, as long as the VRMs are still getting air. It is still quite a bit more effective to use a much larger heat sink like the S1 rev. 2.

There is no way that aluminium case can be better then a steel case if they both use air as heat conductor. It's not possible . Right, because air transfers heat more slowly than both aluminum and steel. The whole point of a heat sink is to pull the heat out of the core then have a huge surface are...

The molex wasn't the problem. The problem was the 3pin GPU fan side of the adapter. You get 34C under load? What fans do you have on it?
