Re: Silent AMD A10-6800K PC - Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanc

I had trouble getting RAM to work on my Gigabyte motherboard. The MB needed to have RAM values manually inputted instead of the automatic setting. I was unable to search my way to the specific values of your RAM(apart from 11-11-11-30-2N), but the solution might be to track those down, CAS, RAS-CAS ...

Re: Seasonic power supplies (coil whine)

Have experience with 2 Seasonic PSUs x560. One has coil whine while the other does not. Super Flower manufactures Kingwins' PSUs. Have a Super Flower Golden King 550W that is equal to Kingwins Lazer Platinum 550 and it has coil whine(to a lower degree, less intensity) as well but it's load switching...

Re: Seasonic Fanless vs KingWin / SuperFlower Fanless

Have experience with two Seasonic X560, where one has a high pitch buzz/whine that changes according to load and another that are effectively silent. The Super Flower 550 platinum Golden King line has a constant lower frequency buzz than the noisy X560 which makes the Super Flower less intrusive. Ha...

Re: In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise

Take a look at the Super Flower SF-550P14PE (Kingwin Lazer Platinum LZP-550 is sold in US and is same Super Flower unit). Have a Seasonic X560 and it buzzes and whines, but gave another X 560 as a present and that one does not have coil noises unless close. Just got the Super Flower unit and it only...

Re: Reasons to buy a desktop for moderate use?

Unfortunately if you want dead-silence, there are only desktops as a viable choice. Dimensions of laptops makes cooling them dead-silent nigh impossible. There are some netbooks which didn't have a fan(and had room for SSD instead of HDD), but had to have very slow CPUs and anemic Graphics. Mobile c...

M-atx and M-itx expectations for CES - CEBIT - COMPUTEX

Here a week before CES starts, what wishes and expectations do you have of the hardware and peripherals? Personally am still lacking a M-atx case with room for a normal sized PSU and CPU cooler that is silence oriented in matte colours. Will the market be even more segmented this year with: "If it's...

Re: AMD FX-8150 8-Core Bulldozer Processor

I delayed on Llano as I was hoping Trinity would have much lower power consumption since it includes the new bulldozer cores. But seeing these results from all the reviews with poorer performance per watt makes me really hesitant if worse CPU performance with improved GPU performance is worth it. Th...

Re: Recommend a Silent Mouse and Keyboard?

I purchased a mouse from Quietmouse.com about a year ago. It is excellent with a caveat; With the reasonable pricetag on, there is a concession in terms of flex on the buttons and the scroll wheel, but so far durability has been good with no complaints. It is plastic all around so when removing your...

Hi and thank you for the review. Am also disappointed, albeit expectantly with a CPU and GPU occupying the same room now. If I had waited 6 months, I'd have grabbed this though for a smallish htpc with ability to play some older games. Hoping as well for some better numbers with Bulldozer quad+ core...

Any chance when you receive the Define Mini for the review, you could ask them if there would be more colour options like the R3 has, especially the Polar White.
Have asked them on their website a long while ago, but have not received a reply.

My Samsung T220 also has this humming noise.
If I keep the settings at 100% on the monitor itself and lower settings via software instead(ATI Control Center), the humming does not start.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for this review! Like a breath of fresh air with all slate hype. Have a Samsung T220 which emitted a whine(don't remember if it was high or low frequency, been a while). Whenever the hardware was set to less than 100% brightness it would appear. I picked the second to last "plan to buy in > 1y". But I do not really plan on getting one. They still seem prohibitively expensive and with XP OS I doubt it would be of much benefit. Main priority concerning SSDs is price. From what I gathered it is the controller in them which is the expensive bit...

I think most newer HDDs are ok noise wise. You can minimize the clicking noise(seeks) if you put the HDD in an enclosure. Seconding the Athlon II X2 CPU suggestion. Unless you do prof. video/music/picture editing a quad core would be more suitable. Otherwise a dual core is more than fine.
