Re: 7870 or 7850, can the former be cooled quietly?
I'm also looking for a new GPU as my Radeon 4850 is getting a bit slow. The Radeon 7850 would be a logical successor but the 7870 seems to perform quite a bit faster. The find out whether it would be possible to cool the 7870 with a low rpm fan I'm trying to compare the power consumption. However th...

That sound interesting. However, in my case i don't think it would help because when the cpu fan is pushing it is also sucking air from the hole in the side panel. Reversing the fan would stop this, which would further restrict the amount of cool air flowing into the case. The exhaust fan is also pl...

I meant the measured noise from a certain distance. Nexus Real Silent : 22db@1m Corsair VX450W : 21db@1m up to 200W (never lower than 21db@1m). So my memory didn't serve me so well. The Corsair has a slight edge. But the difference in practice is much larger than i would expect. But I agree with wal...

Well it sounds comparable. But this comparison is not entirely correct because i'm currently running the fan @ 12V instead @ 11V as before (too few fanmates). But the Nexus fan is somewhat dissappointing. Both the PSU as the Nexus Real Silent are 22db according to SPCR. But the Nexus fan is way loud...

I have the HM160HI. Various sites led me to believe it has only 1 platter. That all capacities up to 160GB have the same weight seem to confirm this. For what it's worth this post on Storagereview also states it. The noise level of my drive is good by the way. However the major drawback (of at least...

I've cut out the exhaust fan guard and ran the Nexus fan at 12V (instead of 11V). It's not quieter without the grill but airflow seems to have improved. The PSU fan does not seem to rev up as much as before. But this could also be due to the noisier exhaust fan. So I'll probably buy an Antec 300 any...

The case supports mounting a 80mm intake fan, although the surface of the intake grill is larger than that. Currently there is no fan mounted here though because it didn't seem to improve the earflow. The other intake is a hole in the side of the case which is supposed to be a heat duct for the cpu....

Thanks for all replies guys. I really appreciate it :) First off I took the PSU out of the case and tested the system while leaving the case open. Even after a three hour gaming session the PSU was as quiet as in the beginning :) Secondly I followed dhanson865's suggestion and put in a faster exhaus...

Corsair VX450W noisy on load
Recently I upgraded my system to a C2D E8400 with a Radeon 4850. My old Tagan 480-U01 was able to power this system while remaining pretty quiet. But one of the 80mm PSU fans (a very thin model, about 10 mm) is starting to fail. Because Seasonic built PSU are highly recommended here at SPCR I figure...

Hi Kato, That PSU mod looks great! I was wondering what kind of system you're using. Is so power hungry that you got annoyed by the PSU fan revving up or was it too noisy even while idle? I also have a VX450 and am happy with the noise when the system is idle. On load however the PSU is far too nois...
