Re: Scythe GlideStream, Slip Stream XT, and Grand Flex Fans

I ordered 2 x HP-12 last night, quietly confident of my decision. I'll post ITT after I receive them, possibly with a picture of my attachment 'system'. No picture because it is ugly as a cow and pretty standard stuff for SPCR enthusiasts. I also picked up an Accelero Twin Turbo III to replace the ...

Re: Scythe GlideStream, Slip Stream XT, and Grand Flex Fans

Any other fans come to mind that I should investigate? Thinking to voltage headers with a conveniently low minimum setting, a possible option for a noise/performance trade off with an high quality bearing might be the Noiseblocker B12-4. I ordered 2 x HP-12 last night, quietly confident of my decis...

Re: Scythe GlideStream, Slip Stream XT, and Grand Flex Fans

The Akasa Apache 120mm fan is a possible alternative you could consider, it has a good quality Fluid bearing and pushes a lot of air at higher speeds. However its top speed is only 1300 rpm. But there is the Akasa Viper 120mm which is a 1900 rpm version of the Apache and might fit the bill for you....

Re: Scythe GlideStream, Slip Stream XT, and Grand Flex Fans

It's an high end fan: it sports the 2nd gen of the original Matsushita FDB bearing, paired with precisely machined blades and an high quality heavy frame, so that it feels so peculiar when you get it in your hand the first times. I paid mines 17.50 euros/each last year, now I see them at 19.50 from...

Re: Scythe GlideStream, Slip Stream XT, and Grand Flex Fans

Twister Pressure (and the angry sister Twister Storm) doesn't sound that good at about any speed, IMHO, but I can confirm they are significantly louder than the competition under 1500rpm. Really? I'm starting to think the "103 12cm case fans review" article (available on your nearest interwebs) was...

Re: Scythe GlideStream, Slip Stream XT, and Grand Flex Fans

Not a great fan (get it?!) of making new posts, so I'll go ahead and ask this here.. are the Grand Flex really that bad? I need two new fans to orient horizontally which can run at 600RPM~ and 2000RPM~ when required. The old Slip Streams have sleeve bearings, which I believe don't like being placed ...

Re: Fractal Design Node 804

So I built in this case a few nights ago. In response to the OP, I only have 3 mechanical drives to test with, but IMHO the resonance is noticeable. You know the sound - the OMMMM... OMMMM... OMMMM. The drives are 2xHD204UI and 1xWD30EFRX. With just the two former drives in, the resonance is almost ...

Re: Fractal Design Node 804

I'm not one for making new threads, so I'll comment here. This thread made me aware of the Node 804, and I've subsequently researched and ordered parts for a build involving this case. The review that pushed me over the edge was this one: http://goughlui.com/2014/09/22/review-fractal-design-node-804...

Both the 1.5TB and 2TB EADS drives have been reviewed by SPCR (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article29-page2.html) and the 1.5tb came out on top, probably due to the 3 vs 4 platters.

The 1.5TB EADS drive is highly recommended by SPCR.. in terms of quietness anyway ;)

I have only had a single sample of both of these drives but the acoustic properties of both are very similiar. However I believe it is generally accepted that the HD203WI is noisier than the HD103UJ (if it is then not by much). It is also generally accepted that the WD20EARS is the quietest 2TB driv...

I had the same issue with another supply (Hiper Type-R 480w, find the thread on SPCR..). That power supply had no problem accepting a fan which plugged into the motherboard rather than inside the PSU - I just left the two pin header empty. I keep mine at 950rpm~ and it has been fine for the last 18 ...

This is really bizarre. I installed Windows Virtual PC to test the XP Mode and MPC opens in <1 second in that enviroment. This rules out the SSD and CPU upgrade, so it has to be down to something in W7 Professional. The question is why aren't forums buzzing with this bug if it's systematic? Arf.

Does Windows 7 still include mplayer2.exe? This is the real "classic" version of WMP (version 6.4, I think). It's still included in XP; not sure about Vista. If it's in your WMP folder in W7, you should try it out. Edit: did you upgrade to W7 at the same time as your hardware upgrade? Or had Classi...

Hey guys. Computer related but not directly silencing related, so posted here. I recently upgraded my system with an SSD, W7, and a quad-core CPU. As already mentioned you don't need any enclosure. The drives have no moving parts and are not prone to heat issues. Keeping it on the bottom of the case will help dissipate what little heat there is, along with keeping it away from other hot components (ie. above/below a standard HD). If you want t...

HR-01 Plus - Blue and Orange Fan Duct Difference?!

I realize the blue and orange ducts are for amd and intel mounting, but is there any other difference other than length? Also, would anyone know/be so kind to measure their duct (squashed, ideally) as the orange one is very hard to get hold of and I was wondering if the blue one will fit my Q9450 wi...

Do not use multi-GPU mode - in this mode, users can power up to 3 displays simultaneously on the GTX 295 graphics card (one from each DVI connector, and a third from the HDMI connector).
