Re: Static/Crackling Noise in HTPC Set-up (Grounding?)
First you need to understand what a ground loop is so you can move on to fixing the actual source of the problem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_loop_%28electricity%29 Thanks for the link. I have googled and wandered around various forums and other places reading about ground loop hums, scroll...

Re: Static/Crackling Noise in HTPC Set-up (Grounding?)
Sounds like a driver or configuration issue to me. A bad cable could cause the issue, but unlikely. Maybe a bad connector on the mobo. It's not likely to be interference if the signal doesn't travel in an analog form. Did you ever have it working with HDMI without crackling. I had an issue with my ...

Re: Static/Crackling Noise in HTPC Set-up (Grounding?)
I tinkered with a few things tonight and when I removed the HDMI cable connecting the HTPC to the receiver, all the static/crackling noise disappears. In fact, when I'm watching a blu-ray on the PS3 or watching TV using the STB (both are connected to the receiver via HDMI), and the HTPC is off, ther...

Static/Crackling Noise in HTPC Set-up (Grounding?)
With a lot of help from you guys here on SPCR, I've been enjoying my mini-ITX build (http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=474898#474898) for over a year now. I've run into a new problem in the form of static/crackling noise coming through my speakers since moving the rig to my home t...

Accuracy of Temp Readings in SpeedFan
I've been running SpeedFan to monitor my CPU and other temperatures and I also just installed CoreTemp for my AMD 5050e system. I've noticed that SpeedFan's CPU temperature reading is about 10C lower than that given by CoreTemp. Which reading is the accurate one?

Yes, it's the Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard. Very stylish and functional, although not exactly cheap.derekva wrote:Is that the Logitech DeNovo? Looks really nice with your setup.
And yes, the Psile is a thermal nightmare of a red-headed stepchild.

Update
Just wanted to provide an update as I've re-configured a few things and my current set-up, IMHO, can now be legitimately classified as a quiet PC. First, I swapped out the WD 3.5" 7200 rpm Blue HD and put in a 2.5" 5400rpm Seagate 500Gb HD. Secondly, I'm now using a fanless Radeon 4350 video card in...

tsmvengy - Yeah the Minja takes up over 2/3 of the case volume so the airflow is pretty hampered. In fact, even after removing the end caps of the Minja, the tip of the heat pipes still press up against the top of the Psile case. Do you think I could get away with using just the stock AMD heatsink ...

Hey. I bet you could shorten that Minja some more. Got a hacksaw? Looks nice. Mid 50's is pretty borderline. How fast are the 60mm fans? Have you tried disabling one/both to see what happens (ie use Nexus as intake and see how natural exhaust works)?. Maybe move the Minja fan on that side bl...

My Kitchen HTPC
I have a large counter space in my kitchen where it's a perfect spot for some TV viewing and internet surfing. So I embarked on my first PC build in 6 years and tried to assemble as quiet of a rig as possible. I ran into some difficulties along the way , but thanks to the SPCR community, I was able ...

Did you try remounting the Minja, sounds like it must not have been making good contact? What did the thermal goop look like when you took it off? The Minja comes with a fan doesn't it? Does the motherboard have any fan control in BIOS? The thermal goop spread from the center and instead of spreadi...

I've finally put all the pieces together and have this rig up and running (I'll post photos later tonight). The fact that I got everything assembled and powered on was gratifying! I think I've got this figured out ... Are you hooking up to the yellow RS232 connector (serial port)? You actually want to use the black front panel connector - right next to the ATX power connection. You can use google images "780G minix" for a good diagram with labels. (sorry for no link - not al...

Hi I used the reset button as the power on/off at the back of the case. I can't remember if I had to modify the cable - 2 pin spaced as a 3 pin...but I will look at it when I get home. If you have an old case/power supply you may wish to plug those into the MB and make sure it actually powers up. W...

Well, you can short the PWR_ON pins to see whether the PC starts up at all. You are correct though, the connector for this should be there, but your Nexus Psile lacks it. Also, just split the POWER LED connector with a pair of scissors or something (though don't do this if you can have the Psile ch...

I'm near the final stages of a mini-ITX build that gtguan posted in the CPU and Motherboards forum. I'm using a J&W 780G MINIX motherboard and a Nexus Psile case. I have pretty much all the cabling hooked up and I wanted to turn it on just to make sure I can at least post and get to the BIOS before ...

I have a dumb question. What do you use the P4 power cable for? Around the debut of the Pentium 4, CPU started requiring far more power than they had in the past. This lead to motherboard manufacturers including an additional 4-pin connection between the PSU and MB. Pretty much any socket-based mot...
