Coolermaster Hyper 6 and Dual Proc Systems

Hi, Does anyone know of a dual AMD MP montherboard whcih has the mounting holes and space necessary for two hyper 6's? It'd be nice to reduce noise on a dual that way. I was also wondering if anyone has considered building support shims on the case door to support the heatsinks on the other end and ...

Organizing Cables OUTside your case

So we all love having that nice clean look inside our cases; cable ties, sleeves, folding.. we got it all in terms of cleanliness inside our case. Does anyone have recommendations for organizing cables outside? I currently use twistties, but it just isnt neat enough. I can still see numerous wires. ...

OK, so convention has it that you should not have intake and exhaust fans on the back of the machine. air should move from front to back. Sure, that makes a lot of sense. But does having intake and exhaust fans in back really make THAT much of a difference in terms of case temps? The area behind the...

All those unused PCI slots

Im not much of a DIYer compared to lots of the more dremel oriented on this site, but the following idea occured to me the other day... Why doesnt anyone simply take out the slot blockers from the PCI slots and put an optional fan mount there if you arent using the slots? Theres easily enough space ...

yeah we're lookin at 1U or 2U. What sort of thing can I get to move the powersupply off the cases? Is there like a monster power supply that can be bought to power 10, 20, even 50 machines? Whats the difference between rack mounting and tray mounting? Is it essentially the same, except no front and ...

Silent Cluster computing

Im a grad student preparing plans for my prof for a new 50-100 node duallie cluster in our lab. Currently, we've got a 16 node 1900 MP cluster, each in a mini chassis. Its LOUD. CRAZY loud. Yes, there is a possibility that we can put the new cluster in another building, but that sets up administrati...

Fan positioning and Noise

I've been thinking of cutting a blowhole or two on the top of my box and mounting 1 or two slow/quiet 120s on the top, and ditching all other fans in the system except the cpu/psu fans. The problem is, the top is closest to me, so this is the loudest place to put them. Even if the rear fans are loud...

PSU idea

Seen a few posts on PSU cooling and ducting. I never did this before, but maybe someone with hands on experience can clue me in... suppose you have a two fan (1 exhaust, 1 interior) PSU why not just flip the power supply upside down, cut a blowhole out the top of the case, and let the internal fan b...

Fan issues done. ARGH! now its HDs!

Im the poster from the previous topic "silencing my noisy Dual MP" So with the assitance of several helpful posters (thank you all) I've done some experimenting. First of all, you were totally right about the intake fans. Good bye intake fans! For the longest time I thought the noise was from the re...

Well, 10 dollars isnt too much to pay to reduce noise. I paid 5 dollars a piece for the fan adaptors at cusa. I've never seen that kind of heatsink that you mention; what sorts of temps are you getting? and how fast are your CPUs? The heatsinks you have appear to be 80mm wide all teh way across - is...

Heat issues with Subwoofers

Hi, I dont know if any of you remember the Microsoft Sound system 80, a 2.1 sound system made by philips and MS back in like 98 or so.. So the subwoofer makes crazy heat. And Im not talkin about heat when Im pounding out the beats - it gets hot during idle. I use it as a foot warmer in the winter. T...

Yeah I had the Tiger amperage problem too. i sent it back and they replaced it. I wont discuss the *****ing stuff here, but it makes me very angry. They fixed the board and gave it to me, with a PSU connector that had an extra MOLEX connection for a 5V plug. I hope that fixes it. I read through the ...

Silencing my noisy dual MP

I've got a dual 1800+ MP system in an antec server chassis (the one with the door). The CPUs are cooled with two Vantec CCK-6035s, and i have four case fans, and a dual fan PSU (Antec 400SL - 92mm on the bottom, 80mm out). Its too noisy. First of all the CCK-6035s come with these rediculous fans on ...

dust filter effect on CFMs

Hey, Does anyone have a review or recommendation on 80mm fan filters (manufactured filters - I know I can build one myself but im lazy) that do not reduce cfms too much? I am interested in ducting air from the case directly onto the cpu HSF, and Im concerned about dust buildup. Heres an example filt...

Duct Cooling Video Cards

Hi, Im interested in eliminating a case fan and running a duct from the back of the case to the video card, and then swapping the video card fan for a bigger one that I can undervolt. Does anyone know if there is a mounting bracket/method for mounting an 80mm fan on a video card? Also, does anyone h...
