Re: Acer Aspire V 11 and E 11

I've bought an Acer E 11, actually the lowest-end version of this, with only two usb ports and a 250GB hard drive. This is an amazing laptop for this price (3300 mexican pesos, this is around 235 dollars). Good sound, webcam, keyboard, it is very lightweight and near silent because is fanless. Scree...

nice build! expecially the home-made case. :)
I have the same intel mobo, it is in a small htpc I tried to build but is too slow/weak for that purpose. I will try to reuse it for a file/music server.

Re: quiet low-power mini-itx i3 2100t build

yes leem, I tweaked all what the mobo let me change in bios for low power consumption. For example I undervolted a bit the ram (not too much, only from1.5v to 1.4v. I will try to push down the voltage a bit more). It isn't possible to undervolt the CPU, but the i3 is very efficient itself at stock v...

Re: mini-ITX LGA1155: efficient PSUs? PicoPSU+brick? or othe

my i3 LGA1155 mini-itx rig is powered by a PicoPSU 90 + a 72w 12v power brick. [ http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=62743 ] Seems to me a pretty efficient combination. If you want even more efficiency, there is a new "green" picopsu: http://cgi.ebay.com/PicoPSU-90-XLP-90W-12V-...

quiet low-power mini-itx i3 2100t build

Finally, my build is finished, after asking here for advice (thanks to Abula, Hfat and other guys). Here is the link: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=62598 The goal: a new general-purpose main pc, mini-itx form, as quiet as possible, low power consumption, not too expensive...

Re: Advice for a low-power mini-itx PC

Thanks to Abula and Hfat, very helpful advices. Abula: I did not notice the close it is the PSU connector to the ram module in the ECS mobo, probably not enough space to fit a picoPsu (but maybe could fit with a PSU extension). Your list of mobos is very useful, and I agree the Intel one is probably...

Advice for a low-power mini-itx PC

I have plans to build a new PC for general use (mainly word processing, web surfing, photo editing, some music, some low profile games and (rarely) some videos. Also dvd and cd ripping. No blue-ray. This PC will substitute my current rig, Athlon II x 2 (not bad at all, but a bit slowish in some task...

very interesting rig. Maybe a PICOpsu 90 would be enough for that power consumption.

I will build soon a similar rig.

Re: fanless products

I can't see a point in a completely passive build, in a silence perspective. As others has stated, a single low-revolution fan is inaudible. So, what's the benefit to run a pc passively?

Re: Opinions and recommendations on two potential builds

I have a D510MO rig I've built for my kids to surf the net and play low-graphic-demanding games. This little pc is feeded by a Picopsu with a standard laptop power brick, has a 2.5" hdd, and a usb wifi adapter. Idles at 17w and go up to 21w under heavy load (playing games). Probably this kind of bui...

I have recently swapped my 17" lcd with a new 21.5" led 1920 x 1080 monitor. Power usage is the same, 13w, when the brightness is lowered to 40%. The new monitor is the Acer S211HLbd 21.5'' (see newegg for reviews). Very nice monitor.

my heavily undervolted athlon II x 2 (not "e") idles at 19-21 C where room temperature is around 20 C.
Stock amd fan rpm is 800-1000, inaudible.
I would suggest not going passive for regors, it's pointless.

sure, it will work!

but 120w is overkill for a PICO-90. You can find cheaper power bricks rated at 90w or 100w. For example, multi-plug/voltages power supplies for laptops.

1. DVD-RW drive (booting the pc and when used)
2. HDD (very quiet)
3. mouse (not too noisy)
4. keyboard (tolerable)
5. case exhaust fan and cpu fan (barely audibles only of the room is totally silent)

Of the 5, I hate only the dvd-rw drive noise. The others are tolerables or not audibles at all.

I rather would vote for 2.5" hdds for: 1 - low noise 2 - low power consumption 3 - low heat 4 - small form factor (importan if you build mini-itx systems) 5 - affordable price (a bit more than 3.5"hdds but a lot cheaper than ssds) If ssds would be cheaper, of course they would be a better option tha...

Both. They has to go in hand: less power consumption and less noise. My actual rig is quite power efficient and almost silent. I had a problem only with a pico 80-wi because it could not power a 2.5" HDD to spin on boot.

the "e" processors are hard to find, in my experience. Maybe are slightly better, but "regular" athlons if undervolted can perform also very well in power consumption.

pico 120 (if not defective) can feed your rig. I have a pico 120-wi with an Athlon II x2 system, and works perfectly.

Have you checked the power brick instead? Maybe this is the responsible.

hi kubunteando, your rig actually has a good power consumption because you have a dedicated graphic card. 42w is not bad at all.
