Re: What PSU for my SILENT build?
Well, you are wrong. It's not better in every way, in fact, it's not better in most ways I had the R5, now playing with the KL07, the R5 is better made, better materials, better air filters etc. Don't get me wrong, the KL07 is a very good case, but simply is not better in EVERY way than the R5. Also...

Re: How much difference does a window make?
Sorry, but that's just ... simple thinking. No, a more open case will not be quieter, as airflow and thermal dynamics are factors that affect cooling and they CAN be controlled, and so can be the other factor, noise. A good case with a positive pressure airflow, yet with some sort of noise dampening...

Re: Bitumen sheets, Fractal Design
So, you say you have been using the Be Quiet! stuff for the past 10 years ? Or that you have tried the exact combination described above and have more than the rest of us to show for it and prove your point, such as actual measurements ? You can show/prove me/us to be wrong or do you simply imply th...

Re: Bitumen sheets, Fractal Design
Well, no open holes in the case, being covered by any material, is better than just open, I guess. The hardcore version would be to use 3mm plastic sheets cut to specs and covered by the HD eggshell foam, to simply cover all the parts where there is no fan or some other component, but ... too much w...

Re: Bitumen sheets, Fractal Design
There are HD (High Density) versions of it, polyurethane with bitumen I guess, but not really sure. Yes, it's thin, 20mm actually, because any thicker would have interfered with the components inside the case. I used some on a Fractal case to cover up all the slits and cutouts that were quite unnece...

Re: Bitumen sheets, Fractal Design
Well, the reason I want those sheets in OEM flavor is not for sound proofing, but more for their aesthetic properties ;) The sound proofing part is taken care of by other means, namely this type of foam : http://www.soundproofcow.com/wp-content/uploads/import/D/Acoustic_Foam_Panel_Convoluted_1_400.j...

Re: Bitumen sheets, Fractal Design
If anything would do, there are plenty of widely available alternatives, from dedicated sound proofing for computer cases, to ... some DIY parts, auto sound proofing, etc.

Re: Bitumen sheets, Fractal Design
No, you don't get it.
I want the OEM material, not just any bitumen sheets.
If any would do, I can get automotive stuff, which for the price should be way better, as it's very expensive.

Re: Bitumen sheets, Fractal Design
Well, if you can find those bitumen backed sheets, I want them too.
I have a few Fractal cases and due to cost reduction, they are all missing sound proofing in areas I would consider important, so I'd like to remedy that short coming.

Re: R5 define case - power LED too bright
Anyone figure out an elegant / easy way to dim the bright power LED. I have the PC in my bedroom and the flashing bright blue LED is annoying. Anyone have any ideas other than using a sharpie/ducktape/not use sleep feature? I imagine it could be unplugged from the mobo and not have any light at all...

Re: What are you listening through? speaker systems & headph
Beyerdynamic DT880 250 ohms with a Soundblaster E5. I prefer speakers to headphones given the option but sometimes headphones are necessity. I sometimes entertain the idea of getting a better set of headphones for myself and I'd probably be looking at the Philips X2/Beyer DT880/Sennheiser HD598 or ...

Hi Luca, do you have any further info on this? No, Seb, I haven't any. (Which is different to the TY-140 and thus misleading naming) Just as a side note, more than once TR specs were odd/weird/misleading: TY-140 specs are far off actual figures, or TY-149 specs are lower than the various 140 Black/...

Now confirmed, the WD10EADS-00M2B0 is MUCH quieter than the Seagate Barracuda LP 1000GB. Idle noise on the WD is almost non-existent, and seek noise is just a tad louder than the fan in the Antec MX-1, but the same smoothness to it, nothing sharp and annoying. PS. However, it is slower and hotter, i...

The EARS is not so widely available because it's the new Advanced Format drive with 4kb sectors and will create a few problems with some OSes.

First of all, I am using XP Pro, and no, has nothing to do with any power saving fuctions, it simply locks the PC when I start writting on the disk, only for 1 to 3 seconds, then it's all normal. For instance, when downloading a new torrent, or when copying from another drive, it happens. http://imi...

I will have to disagree about the Seagate LP 1TB, it has extremely noisy seeks and a buggy firmware, I tested and retested the one I have and it still locks the PC for a few seconds on first writes(no bad sectors or anything, it's been tested). So I'd go with the WD Green, 1TB, 500GB platters, eithe...

Yes, but the Black has more dampening, it's a heavier drive, 690 grams as oposed to 640 grams of the Blue version. I had the Blue 640 WD drive, it was sort of quiet, not record braking, but not loud either. Now I have the Black and the Blue, both in the same model enclosure(I use them on laptops) an...
