Re: Choosing a heatsink to go with a A12x25?

The 140mm version of the A12x25 was expected to be released at the end of last year, I believe. I assume that it's release is right around the corner.

Re: Exhaust Fan for Fractal R5

You will probably get more airflow to the CPU and GPU if you remove the 3 bay HDD cage and move the 5 bay HDD cage to the bottom. Even better if could could consolidate your HDD's and just use 3 in the 3 bay cage at the bottom.

So you have 4 case fans presently, 2 NF A-14's and two GP-14s? Where are they located? As CA_Steve mentioned, are you using the middle drive cage?

Re: Exhaust Fan for Fractal R5

How are you controlling the case fans' speed? I'm using the UEFI of the Asus Maximus Hero VIII MB. The front case fans are on a manually set curve, while the CPU/rear case fans are on the standard curve of the CPU/CPU_opt headers, at least for now. I'm not sure if I want to install AI Suite 3 or no...

I am getting positive airflow, at least at idle. I checked my fan speeds last night and they are all around 550 RPM at idle, both CPU and case fans.

Re: Exhaust Fan for Fractal R5

Well, I built my computer this past weekend. I ended up getting the NH-D15 cooler. I moved the rear Fractal GP-14 to the front bottom and removed the center 5 bay drive cage. I only used the center fan on the NH-D15 cooler and took the extra A15 fan and made it a rear case exhaust. Later if I decide...

Can you replace the side panel with a panel that has a fan cutout? Other than water cooling, and based on the testing at pugetsystems, I think you would benefit from a side fan blowing directly on the gpu's.

I don't know, but lodestar thinks so. Maybe an email to Seasonic would help clear this up.

Re: Fractal Design Define R5 airflow (esp. PSU mounting)

so that heat doesn''t build up within the PSU when the fan is off You are over concerned about that: actually there's no harmful heat build up (the EVGA answer sounds rather reasonable/correct). And yet it appears that the Seasonic is designed for the fan to be in the UP position. Maybe a Seasonic ...

Re: Fractal Design Define R5 airflow (esp. PSU mounting)

I emailed EVGA about this (in relation to the Supernova 650 P2 PSU): I know the owner's manual says to position the unit with the fan down as long as there is adequate ventilation on the bottom of the case. It seems like that in ECO mode it might be better to have the grill in the up position so tha...

Re: Fractal Design Define R5 airflow (esp. PSU mounting)

There may be an advantage of having the fan, and therefore the grill, up when the the unit is in passive mode with the fan off. I would think that this would allow the unit to release the heat more easily and keep the unit cooler.

Re: Fractal Design Define R5 airflow (esp. PSU mounting)

I can't understand why they can give clear instructions on the Platinum 400/460/520 Fanless immediately preceding it, but not on the Platinum-660. It boggles the mind!

Re: Fractal Design Define R5 airflow (esp. PSU mounting)

Well, it is confusing unless you state fan up or fan down. Looking at the owner's manual, it states: For Platinum-400/460/520 Fanless: The power supply unit must be mounted into the computer case with the ventilation top cover facing UP..... For Platinum-660/760/860/1000/1200: Depending on the type ...

Re: Fractal Design Define R5 airflow (esp. PSU mounting)

I think that most people mount their bottom mount PSU's with the fan down to pull in fresh air. On this PSU I think it would make the logo and cable connector writing upside down, yet the writing on the back plate (the only part visible on the outside of the case) would be right side up.

Re: Exhaust Fan for Fractal R5

I'm in a very similar situation. I want to move the rear Fractal fan on my R5 to pair it with the front intake, and get a PWM 140mm for the rear (and possibly another for the bottom; haven't decided yet). No one has mentioned the Phanteks PH-F140HP, which sounded quite appealing in the "First 140 m...

Re: Exhaust Fan for Fractal R5

I've ordered the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming board which claims 2 4-pin cpu fan headers (optional mirroring the main I assume) and 3 4-pin chassis fan headers. I'll have a 6700k slightly overclocked and a asus strix 980ti potentially overclocked in the case. I'm debating between three options, any advice ...

Re: Exhaust Fan for Fractal R5

I also recently got a new R5, and was looking to do the same by moving the rear fan to the front and replacing the exhaust. It looks like the case comes with a fan controller that can handle 3 fans. What would be the preferred scenario, plugging the third (new, exhaust) fan into the controller with...

Re: PSU overkill

There are some members that fixate on the PSU being passive over the range of encountered loads. In reality, if your PC is consuming 300+ watts, there's going to be a fanned gfx card in there that will mask any noise a decent PSU's fan would make. You are better off: - Going with an appropriately s...

I have a Scythe cooler now in my old build, but I agree that looking at the total cost in the USA including shipping & tax, reputation of the retailer, seemingly inflated prices of the Scythe's from the few retailers that carry them, I'm getting pushed into the Noctua camp which ends up only costing...

It may have been mentioned in the previous discussion, but the EVGA's (and I think the Seasonic Hybrids) have a switch on the back that lets you run the fan all the time if you desire. EVGA calls it ECO mode as I recall.

Re: Corsair RMx series PSUs: quiet operation but without Lin

Hopefully, the RMx 550 will drop below $100. Just as a side note: I think it won't be enough for Corsair (though good for some informed customers). I've seen recently the EVGA G2 at $70 AMIR, rather tough to beat (EVGA is heavily dumping the enthusiast PSU market, at least there). Today I think you...

Thanks. I was getting confused by the different model numbers and suffixes. I appreciate all of your recommendations 8)

Has anyone used an Noctua NF-A15 on the back of the Fractal R5? I wonder if there will be any problem with fit or obstruction of other components, e.g. the IO shield?
