Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 1: Intel GMA HD 3000 Graphics

The maximum resolution is 2560x1600 according to this slide . Let's assume I'll get 30" screen with that resolution. Is the HD 3000 really enough for it for non gaming use? I would assume that playing any kind of HD content full screen would require more power than what HD 3000 offers. I'm thinking...

Re: Advice on mid size (P150) and quiet C2D server

NEVER OLD IDE HARD DISK! You ruin ALL quiet with noisy IDE hard disk! Also of reliability it best to buy performance SSD like INTEL series, cost much however! Maybe of OCZ series you can use simple SSD of small capacity to operating system, I think 80GB is very over killing to operating system! Eve...

Advice on mid size (P150) and quiet C2D server

I'm building C2D based smallish Windows 2008 server. It would handle all the downloads, occasional x264 encodes, ftp, .NET development (IIS, SQL Server etc.) but most of the time it will be idle. Even though I'm using CD2 I try to make it as quiet and power efficient as possible. Motherboard: Asus P...

Re: Antec HDD 'O-rings' - Any other cases which contain thes

If you are looking for the O-rings themselves you are out of luck, because Antec don't sell them in their online store. According to Antec's online store they sell them now: 1 set of 6 Hard Disk Drive Suspension bands for use with P150 or Solo http://www.antec.com/Detail.bok?no=489 SKU 30052 The pi...

If you want power savings, mATX with IGP plus your additional network card is the wise option, and you also avoid having to buy discrete graphics card. I agree. I also think that mATX (with IGP) + additional network card produces less heat than ATX + discrete graphics card. The cost of additional c...

Here you go, with dual GB LAN, VGA and 333 MHz FSB. http://www.prisjakt.nu/kategori.php?k=412#rparams=k=s40117802 Another list, this time not with 333 MHz FSB only. http://geizhals.at/deutschland/?cat=mbp4_775_ddr2&xf=488_2~325_VGA Thanks! I didn't remember that those sites have pretty good ways to...

Any C2D boards with dual gigabit and integrated graphics

I'm building core duo based server (most likely E8400) and I need the board to have integrated graphics and two gigabit ethernet ports. So far I haven't seen any of those. Some of the ATX boards have dual gigabit but no integrated graphics and most mATX boards have integrated graphics but not dual g...

Re: Core2 or i7[?]

I am designing a system to buy in the near future and uncertain whether to go with the i7 option, or with the trusty Core 2. The purpose of this thread is discuss heat and noise associated with both options, and predominately in regard to motherboard options. I have the same situation. I'm building...

Re: File server, download machine and x264 encoder in one

In my opinion: Yes, you are. Split encoding (a CPU heavy task) and downloading /file serving ( which requires no CPU to speak of ) and save on a lot of electricity. I agree about splitting those tasks but I have to disagree about the CPU usage when downloading from newsgroups. The binaries are yEnc...

File server, download machine and x264 encoder in one

I'm building completely new server (no old parts) which would act as a file server, encode x264 files and handle all my downloads. I will most likely use Windows Server 2008 as the OS (mainly for learning, maybe setting up a domain, testing streaming with IIS, developing .NET software/web sites etc....
