Re: static/crackle/coil whine/interference problem
Hi all, I just wanted to say thanks for your help and that I solved the problem. The solution was basically markanini's. I opened up my software mixer and maxed the treble and bass and played with some other settings. This basically gave me a good enough signal-to-noise such that I could set my ampl...

Re: static/crackle/coil whine/interference problem
Hi guys, Thanks for the quick respones. I'll reply to all in turn here. @ markanini The issue occurs with both the onboard sound and my Creative Audigy 4, so I am not sure a better quality sound card would help. Maybe something with shielding as my Audidgy doesn't have any shielding. No new 3G gear ...

static/crackle/coil whine/interference problem
G'day all, I recently bought new speakers and they have brought to the fore a noise problem which was just about bearable before. It is not the speakers themselves, rather that the speakers are very efficient in amplifying all noises, including this annoying thing! The symptoms are a static crackle ...

Re: Radeon 7770 and 7750 reviews out
Umm... bump? Has anyone had experience fitting coolers to both the 5770 and the 7770? For example are the PCBs of reference designs the same size? I know I will basically just have to suck it and see, but I am trying to decide which model to go for and so far it will basically just be a crap shoot...

Re: Radeon 7770 and 7750 reviews out
Well I did a couple of years ago, but then I bought the Thermalright HR-03 rev. A. The nice thing is that this cooler can be mounted 'in reverse' with the heatsink fins on the back of the card. And with this I have one straight airflow from my graphics card, through my CPU heatsink and exhausted up ...

Re: Radeon 7770 and 7750 reviews out
My 5770 died and I am quite interested in buying a 777777770. I would to also like to take my aftermarket cooler over to the 7770, a Thermalright HR 03 rev. A. Can anyone verify the the mounting holes, heatsink compatibility etc. on any of the 7770 models. Also, is there a way to use RAM heatsinks o...

are the Scythe Kama Flow2 worthy?
These fans seem to be successors to the Kama Flows which in turn are pretty much S-FLEXes -so it would seem like they are. There doesn't seem to be much buzz about them here on the forums. Anyone have any experience or reviews? I am considering sticking a 92mm one on my graphics card, mostly because...

best input 120mm intake and 92mm graphics card fans
Hi all, Recently my intake at the front of my P193 fan failed. It was a 1200 RPM Scythe Slipstream 120mm and, even at ~5V (via a fan controller), I found it the most audible and annoying sound in my system. Maybe it was because it was at the front, maybe it was a bad sample but I was hoping for bett...

Re: speaker recommendation
Ha, I should have known this thread would have kicked off. Some great conflicting advice - buy NAD-don't buy NAD; matching matters-matching doesn't matter... So coming back to the Original Topic I am concluding the following, * Amp is not so important, budget should be split about 3:1 or 2:1 in favo...

speaker recommendation
Hi all, I am considering spending some cash on stereo speakers + amp. I was hoping the nice folks in these parts might have some balanced advice, without being too 'audiophilic' about it. I will be buying in europe, budget of about 300-400 eurodollars. This is not totally fixed, if I can hit some so...

Re: Antec P193: Actual CPU cooler clearance?
Hi vifrosty, Don't have any useful info to add but I just thought I'd keep you company as a fellow P193 owner who has faced similar issues. It seems a bit ridiculous situation to have such a big case and have an issue with heatsink clearance but that is what we find. After not finding any conclusive...

Re: UK SD TV connectivity from VGA
Yeah, I am aware the inputs on the telly are the key variable. My friend is on holiday but when he gets back I will check out his TV again and post back.
These VIA boards look interesting, thanks for the tip. New territory for me but I will certainly bear it in mind.
More next week...

UK SD TV connectivity from VGA
I have been asked by a friend to sort him out with an uber-cheap HTPC to drive his SD telly. I am okay with the computer stuff (obviously, that is why he asked me), but I am not sure on all this old analogue TV connectivity. My question is this, for a UK PAL SD TV (acronymtastic!) how can I input a ...

Yeah, with a standard fan tied on it takes up 3 slots. I had exactly the same problem, one free slot between the graphics card and my sound card, so it wouldn't fit with a fan. Instead I reverse mounted it. The fan blows air up straight through my Xigmatek HDT-964 (with a 92mm fan) and then out thro...

If you can get a hold of HR-03 Rev. A I can recommend it, my card is well cooled with that heatsink and a 120mm slipstream at 5 volts. Check with thermalright if they have any more, I got a good deal buying mine directly. The reverse mounting thing is pretty handy too. I manage to reduce temperature...

Actually I have found another option, a Scythe 92mm S-FLEX (non-PWM). It is spec'd at 2000 RPM/25 dB (compared to 2500/31 for the Kama PWM). I could easily undervolt it to 5V or 7V. It might have to work quite hard because it is part of a single GPU/CPU airpath. This starts with a 120mm Scythe Slips...

Advice needed: Scythe Kama PWM 92mm or Nexus 92mm PWM??
I want to replace the 92mm PWM fan on a Xigmatek HDT-S964 with a quieter fan (also PWM I guess). I can't find any good, 'spcr-grade' info recommending such a fan, but I assume that the Scythe Kama PWM 92mm or Nexus 92mm PWM are going to be goods bets. Can anyone recommend one over the other or share...

quiet cooling for 5770
Hi all, I want to quieten down a 5770 that I recently fitted to my system. All other components are spcr recommended and CPU is undervolted so baseline is pretty quiet. My case is an Antec P193, a bit of a beast which I kind of regret buying due to its sheer size. My plan was to utilise the 200mm Ba...

I can post pics of this card next time I open the case if folks wa...

Hi Steve, thanks for the info. Does it definitely clock down under low loads? I probably won't go for the Vapor-X version though. 5770 recommendation??
I have decided to get a 5770 for my new rig. Good gaming power plus excellent power consumption plus DX11 support equals win! Problem is I have heard reports that some cards don't properly clock back at idle. I am going to use aftermarket cooling so this is the only real criteria I have. And reliabi...

I recently bought a P193. It is a lovely case, I am sure all Antec cases are a huge step of from the generic rubbish I was using before. But it is HUGE. I am in a similar situation, I need a single-slot graphics card with a bit of gaming power. It is very frustrating that the HD5000 series are all double-slot. At the launch of the 5700 series a lot of review sites suggested that we might get non-reference, single-slot 5750s but I haven't seen one ye...
