Re: Soundscience Rockus 3D | 2.1 by Antec

I can't say I really understand the market for computer speakers that cost more than $50 USD. In my case, I use my computer to stream media to my TV (where my TV sound system takes over). While I'm at my computer, I'm usually either gaming or surfing the web. Gaming I use a headset, and for surfing ...

Re: Living room *quiet* htpc system - SG05 or ISK 300?

although it can't run fanless, I'm guessing a single fan at low speed will be sufficient. source? I'm guessing the same but I'm not so sure it couldn't run fanless in a that large case if the power supply was removed. I don't have this case but would anything prevent hot air from rising from the bo...

Re: Please comment on these specs for quiet system

1. Yes, 60 gigs is plenty for windows 7 and future updates. However, it doesn't leave you a whole lot of room for other stuff to be perfectly honest. I read that SSD's drop in speed if you fill them up entirely...I'm not sure if that's true anymore since the technology is changing rapidly, but I don...

Re: Living room *quiet* htpc system - SG05 or ISK 300?

GD05 hands down. It's considerably bigger than the antec, but if the extra size doesnt bother you, it's undoubtedly MUCH easier to cool, and thus, it's quieter. I believe the GD05 is an editor's choice case..unlike the Antec.

Re: Silent Gaming System Build Guide

My old 8800GT and C2D combo played medium settings at frame rates higher than 30... As did mine..I would check drivers/bios, then a graphics card stability test like furmark. See what the stability test tells you, and take it from there. It could also be something as simple as a setting. Try turnin...

Re: Lounge HTPC build advice spec needed please

How about using the Grandia GD05? It's cheaper, smaller and more efficient. I've actually been planning a PC with the i3-540 and I chose the GD05. Now I will of course consider the i3-2120. Anyone think this case could cause any issues? Absolutely not..it's an editor's choice case here on SPCR. Che...

Re: my lil silent media/game box

I just bought that same GPU card to upgrade my rig a little for HDMI action to my TV...LOVE the card. I bought it for the massive stock heat sink on it..it cools the card even better than my old aftermarket zalman cooler, probably because of the increased thermal mass. The fact that this is your fir...

let us not forget...in the bottom right corner of Afterburner it says and I quote: "Powered by Rivatuner" I have no desire to fuck around with any other GPU settings other than clock speed, shader and memory speed. I want fan control too, and afterburner has all of that and more (voltage control etc...

Re: EVGA Classified SR-2 Case (designed not to be too loud)

Question: When the system is installed, does it come with a dedicated gasoline supplemental generator? I'd be willing to bet this thing would draw more kilowatt hours in a day than my apartment does in a month haha.

Really sexy case enclosure though!

Why keep anything up to speed when MSI does it for me? For almost every card I use, I just set the overlock and fan speed once and forget it.

Re: Which GTX 460 to choose?

You can actually set up a fan profile for speed. You can put up to 8 points on a curve I believe. For example: at 50C you might want the fan at 50%, then at 55C you can have the fan at 52%, and then at 60C you could have the fan linearly increase to 70% or something. Afterburner literally lets you c...

Re: Which GTX 460 to choose?

MSI installed. too lazy to update my pictures in my signature, but this card is QUIET. The card is shorter than my old 8800 and its much heavier: the stock heatsink on it is massive for an off the shelf card. It's extremely cool. Sitting at under 40C right now with the fan turned down to minimum spi...

Well..I actually trust newegg reviews when there are enough of them. If a given product has 94% positive reviews, and there are hundreds of them, you can bet your ass it's a good product. Especially considering bad products motivate people to write reviews more often than good ones I feel like..

Re: Which GTX 460 to choose?

Two fans aren't always better than one..the stock cooler on the MSI card I linked has a very respectable thermal mass, which people often forget about. It's not just about the fans, its about how well the heatsink can dissipate the heat generated on the GPU. The MSI card has a hearty heatsink and re...

Re: Which GTX 460 to choose?

I JUST bought this one - MSI's N460GTX MSI, good brand, very nice warenty, and look at the stock cooling on that thing! The reason I got this card was the price was right, easy to over clock with MSI afterburner (and these cards over clock like crazy..), and the stock cooling solution on it is proba...

Re: Silent Gaming System Build Guide

A bigger case could allow cheaper components -- matx or atx boards are cheaper than mini-itx when you look at value products, and you can run a hotter/faster/cheaper CPU with higher thermal limits in a bigger case. Ditto the GPU -- could be hotter/more powerful -- and a bigger heatsink could be use...

To answer some of your questions: 1) yes, due to the low power output of that CPU, the stock cooler is probably not bad at all. That said, for 30 dollars you can make it completely inaudible. I'm a big fan of aftermarket CPU cooling if your goal is silence (no pun intended). The one I have was under...

Have you ever seen the show Horders? You are the digital equivalent of those people.
Even in 1080p, it would take several lifetimes to watch that much TV.
