I haven't tried the stand-by feature, but mine isn't as quiet as it should be, based on the description in the review.

I just wanted to mention that in case anyone reading this is expecting theirs to be effectively silent. I can still hear mine over 12' feet away in the far side of the room.

I'll give it a go with the case fan unplugged and the rear grille blocked up to see how it compares with the fan just unplugged.

Yes, I would need to remove the motherboard and heatsink. I have got the Ninja 2 heatsink and there isn't much room at all.

If it gets worse then I may well do that. It'll be a nuisance to do because I'll have to take the motherboard/heatsink out in order to remove the PSU. I would probably get a second Scythe fan though (which of course will be faulty when it arrives! ), then it would give me the opportunity to re...

The reason why I think the PSU is louder than it should be is because the one that was reviewed and tested on this site was effectively silent, to the extent that they had to check to make sure it was actually working - and the reason why I bought it in the first place. It's not worth sending back b...

I have just stuck my ear against the intake grille down the front edge of the case and I can hear the hard drives from there, so I know which sound you are referring to, but I can't hear them at all from about 1' away. The hard drives are the closest noise-producing item to my ears from where I sit ...

I still think it's down to me being sent a load of crap rather than having acute hearing. The hard drives are absolutely silent, apart from the occasional muted seek noise, usually at start up - a bit like a the sound of a distant bird chirping, or a momentary grasshopper sound. I have got the...

Right then, some interesting findings! First of all, I unplugged the case fan and after five minutes my 'System' (northbridge, I think) temperature went up by 5C to 50C. My CPU temperature went up by 6C to 39C. My hard drives went up by by different rates, being 2C, 1C and 4C (that's C:\, E:\ and F:...

Yes, I mentioned the video recorder-type noise as well, but in my last post I was referring specifically to the moving air noise that I had mentioned in earlier posts. The distant aeroplane-type sound that I had also mentioned when the fan was turning at 1000 rpm actually disappeared when I got my F...

Yes, it's rather typical of the kinds of things that happen to me! I'm wondering if any of the moving air noise is simply due to the fan being mounted in the case fan position, against the stamped grille. Should it still be silent whilst moving air directly into the grille? I'm wondering if I ...

I don't know really. I just ran the test from within RealTemp, which opened Prime95 and it did its own thing! From what I could make out it was running my CPU at different loads, starting with the highest first. I presumed that the figures stopped changing once it got to the lower CPU loads because ...

Ahh that's good. Thanks for your help on this subject. I won't worry about temperatures now! Regarding the fan, maybe I'm being too fussy, but during a quiet night I can actually hear it from those distances mentioned when I was expecting imperceptible sound. I think I'll put up with it for the mome...

I have just taken the side of the case off and I'll type this as I watch the temperatures. The readings in RealTemp haven't altered at all, remaining at 48C and 52 to TJ Max. In SpeedFan The CPU temperature has gone down 2C and the AUX has gone down 2C. Interestingly the my C:\ drive has gone up 1C ...

I just ran Prime95 for ten minutes or so and the temperature was going up and down from 48C to 54C, but didn't go over that. The temperatures for each core didn't vary more than one degree from the other core. As soon as it went up it went down again. The distance to TJ Max was going down proportion...

The heatsink is definitely fitted okay. It was bending the motherboard slightly before I fitted the motherboard into the case. I applied the thermal grease properly and used the correct amount too, so I'm pretty sure it's fitted properly. I'm not actually convinced I'm getting any sense out of RealT...

I'll have a look in the BIOS and see what it's set to. It would be whatever it was as standard because I haven't touched that at all. I'm not too bothered about the fan speed fluctuations, rather that I was curious to know why it might be doing that. I was going to get one of those controllers, but I was told they are inferior and a waste of money when compared with the software alternative, so I didn't get one in the end.
