Re: Might need a new power supply...

Suggestions under 100 are welcome, also looking at: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GS which should be silent at idle only, but is 20 bucks less. I don't think ATX PSUs would easily fit inside a SG07/08 (and in case a 140mm units should be preferred): personally I'd look at a Corsair SF450/SF600 SFX PSU. Believ...

Might need a new power supply...

So my computer wouldn't boot a few days ago, and my motherboard seems to have gone kaput (I hit the power button and lights flash, fans spin for 2 seconds and then no more power)...but the power supply passes the paperclip test, even though it smells funny, that may have been how it always smelled (...

Re: Better long-term investment PS4 or XB1?

If you're on SPCR noise may matter to you. http://www.gamefront.com/how-loud-is-the-xbox-one-compared-to-ps4/ I am very suspicious of their overall methodology (seems to be a 40db noise floor) but the PS4 does appear to be ~twice as loud while gaming, and performance while playing back blu ray is li...

Thanks again for the help guys, I do indeed own the e7400. I also own a xigmatek 1283 that I could use with the darkheart, but obviously not with a mini-itx build. I was running some quick cost breakdowns: mini-itx: 130 motherboard 100 case(ish) 40 dollar cooler (http://www.frostytech.com/articlevie...

Thanks for the response, that looks good but it seems a bit pricey haha. I'll continue to look into it... Dimensions: 200 mm (W) x 360 mm (H) x 312mm (L) for silverstone SG03B-F 288 mm (W), 217 mm (H), 370 mm(L), for the blackheart 222 mm (W) x 176 mm (H) x 276 mm (L) for a new case I'm considering....

SFF college computer build, need help!

I've finally decided to build a SFF computer for college (I like to game). This allows me to buy a cheaper laptop and not worry about battery life. Anyway, this is the proposed hardware: 4gb ram intel e7400 (2.8ghz stock, might go to 3.4 if I need to..it's 45nm so it should be reasonably cool) GTX 4...

Well I probably should have stuck with a 4770, but it struggled at 1920x1200. The air duct allows it to idle at 30% fan speed which is inaudible. My fan controller came today and now the loudest thing is my hard drives. I'm going to get an SSD some time now that they hit 225 ( intel's 34nm drives )....

Nvidia's CUDA and ati's STREAM are not related to video playback I believe. They both decode 1080p without using much of the CPU. Nvidia's CUDA is used in things like badaboom for ultra-fast video conversion and folding @ home. ATI's stream tries to be CUDA but fails...horribly. I've owned both ati ...

Sorry I'm referring to 4870 and higher for ati and gtx260+ for nvidia. Those cards use things like the hr-03 gtx. I believe thermalright and arctic cooling are the only people that even bother to attempt to cool these things. Accelero won't fit. The only other alternative is a 70 dollar cooler with ...

If you like their gaming/led style, I would only recommend their P18x series, make sure the door opens correctly for your position. You might also be interested in a silverstone TJ01. I say this only because you are considering a passively cooled graphics card and without positive air pressure in yo...

Something no one has mentioned yet, but is well known among overclockers, is that the motherboard voltages by default are above what is recommended. I really have no idea why they do this but on a recent build my i7 was peaking 62C load, normally around 58C with clocks @ 2.66ghz. The voltage was act...

While I would definitely like a GPU socket it is not going to happen simply due to the immense cost for minimal benefit ( to the majority of users ). I like the idea of PCI-E extenders so graphics cards could be externally used. It would definitely free up airflow in the case and be easier for many ...

Not positive but it's something like settings menu > connection > connection mode > wireless > automatic should be fine and it will either connect or give you a list of nearby wireless networks I believe. Very simple setup as I recall.

GTX 275 twinfrozr at newegg, 185 AR

Newegg is offering the msi gtx 275 with the non-reference cooler for 200-15 rebate. Even at 200 it's a good price since the card normally sells for 250. The new cooler definitely lowers temps and is reviewed as being quiet, but who knows what quiet means to reviewers. This card reaches 70C with furm...

Haha good catch  . Then again it was 2:50 AM when I posted that and I think I may have done a better job than reviewers by listing what I consider to be pretty quiet. I haven't noticed the S-flex above my other fans ( it's at 100% which is apparently 23db ) but all the measurements are crap if ...

MSI twinfrozr GTX 275, as quiet as they say?

It is unbelievable the number of reviews online that say, "pretty quiet" as if that is supposed to help. Thank god spcr exists. Since the gtx 275 is only 185 at newegg atm I am considering upgrading from a gtx 260 superclocked. I would be selling my old 4770 to a friend and moving the gtx260 into my...

The gtx260 ichill is not for sale , at least I couldn't find it for sale and likely out of my price range. The GTX 275 is also out of my price range. I am already pushing this since I'm actually buying 2 graphics cards ( for seperate PCs ). The asus gtx260 was only around 20db which certainly is imp...

I know that a computer is only as quiet as the loudest component in the system. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that my video card will be the loudest component. The atcs 840 already has hard drive dampeners so I don't think they'll be an issue. Thanks for your responses. EDIT: I also may use ...

I have changed the title to better reflect the content of this post. I'm just freaking out a bit about the time. I had the 4870 and at 25% it was quiet. 30% it was audible and any more than that and I didn't like it at all. I kept it at 34% if I was folding and if I was web browsing I kept it at 27%...

gtx260 superclocked? less than 1 hours till I order

Sorry for the awkward title. I am considering two evga gtx260. I do game, but I also like quiet systems. The prices are 155 for the normal clocked one and 165 for the superclocked version. I am not sure if evga cherry picks the superclocked ones but maybe someone here will know. Both are core 216 an...
