I measured, which is difficult to do exactly since one has to estimate where the side panel will be, and it is about 15mm from the top of the heat pipes to the side panel, and about 28mm from the top of the fins to the side panel. When I say the top of the heat pipes I am referring to the decorative...

I also have found that a Mugen 2 can fit inside a Solo case, but I am using a different motherboard than you are. As an earlier poster said, the best thing is to measure and check. The forums on the German Scythe website have some nicely dimensioned pictures of each of their heatsinks. I'm sorry tha...

My main reasons to choose OpenSolaris for my NAS are centered on ZFS. ZFS provides software RAID, snapshots, and integration with iSCSI, NFS and CIFS. I have been pleased with the performance and manageability of ZFS. Linux can do most of the things that OpenSolaris can, but for me Linux disk manage...

I built a NAS which has 5 x 1TB drives using OpenSolaris and ZFS. The CPU is a Pentium dual-core E5200, and it provides plenty of horsepower. Even when reading files from the NAS at 50M bytes/s, CPU utilization doesn't often go above 20 percent. Since the CPU is for a NAS, which will likely be alway...

In response to some of the comments... Somewhere in my parts bin are some silicon rubber fan mounts, which I'll use to replace the screws on the case fan. I will likely experiment with elastic mounting the HDD after things settle down a bit with the system and the things it's connected to. I'm still...

Okay, the alarm went off, the neighbors called, and my diary reminded me what I had to do. The picture taking was complicated by the reflections off of the heatsink... http://www.acornknoll.com/images/spcr1.jpg http://www.acornknoll.com/images/spcr2.jpg I'm not showing exterior views as there's noth...

Okay, this post makes 3.

I better go clean up my cabling and get some better pictures. Some of the systems pictured on this forum are so neatly wired it's frightening.

I should have pictures here in a day or two.

Intriguing. Questions about heatsink...

I like your system. The idea of convection cooling has been of interest to me since the old Apple Cube days. With regards to the Orochi heatsink: how did you get it all installed? In particular, it seems like it would be very hard to put in the screws that hold the motherboard to the case once the h...
