"Small"?
Well, kind of small :) Definitely not micro sized, like say the Intel NUC.

Congrats. That is one seriously awesome build. One of the few that meets all my criteria. Small. Cool. Silent. Powerful.

Nicely done.

Re: This may be the Holy Grail of silence

I went ahead and sprung for an i7 2.3Ghz Mac Mini. I am extremely happy with the silence. I have light bulbs that make more noise! That said, I do not do much with it and I also use fan control software because I think it runs too hot if left to Apple's devices. This little machine, with 16GB Ram an...

Re: BRIX: Gigabyte's NUC equivalent?

I am very interested in how silent this is. Also, there are a few cases being made by third parties for this new "NUC" sized mainboard. Forget who, Silverstone maybe?

I want the 65 watt Haswell version :)

It is not removable but there is a version supposed to come out next month with i5.

I am looking for a desktop (power desktop) replacement, so no Atom for me!

Yes, that does look awesome. Will it run the i5 though? Time will tell all here. Which will run cooler? Fan or no fan? That is always the question here at SilentPCreview!

That is the one I saw. SilverStone is correct. Looks awesome. Stock case has a fan too. But still had heat issues. At least one of the versions did.

Re: This may be the Holy Grail of silence

Last I heard was that a new version with USB 3 was coming in April. Hopefully they have solved any and all heat issues by then too :) Its always about the heat. There have been some excellent after market cases for it, do not have links at this time. I think one was Lian-Li.

Re: This may be the Holy Grail of silence

I am not sure that it is as I have not seen/used one.

A. It is SMALL.

B. Which is really A, it is cool according to specs.

C. It takes advantage of the brand new Intel mainboard.

D. They say a Core i5 is coming, which would give it very excellent power.

Re: This may be the Holy Grail of silence

Excellent point. I was just reading about that. And must say that the possibility of that occurred to me when I first saw the layout. Too may chips in too small an area equals overheating. I could circumvent that easily as I like to use Ethernet. May be the last person who does :)

I am very interesting in this. If it was a core i5 I would not even hesitate.

I may be building this just to have silence and small and fairly powerful all in the same space :)

Holy smokes! It looks like someone has finally built my dream silent PC. Nice work. So that is an i7 with a passive cooler. Wow. I would only be using that, with built in video like you, and a 512GB SSD I already have. I also would use a Noctua fan as I like them and they are silent. 2 questions: 1....

Re: Near-Silent mITX SG07 w/ Acoustipack, HR-02, GUP Smart D

Very nice! I was thinking of that board in a silverstone case, the SG 08 I think it is. Xeon CPU is interesting. It fits a "real" ATX PSU, super! I happen to have a very nice spare PSU. I do not put CDrom's in anymore so that would be good for airflow I think. I also would only have a single SSD in ...

Nice little project. Congrats! I just like a small, quiet yet super fast computer that has a huge thermal envelope so I do not have to worry about heat ever no matter what. I can use my own very quiet PSU.

And good room for a nice Noctua CPU cooler.

If Intel would make the NUC a few inches taller...

and put an i5 in it, I would add a nice Noctua fan and have the PERFECT computer. Also just big enough for a 2.5 SSD so one would have more options. It would still be the smallest computer around :)

Small, quiet, powerful. A man can dream :)
