I'm running running that board with the following components:

AMD Athlon X2 240 (undervolted to 1.125v in bios)
4 gigs of DDR2 RAM (Mushkin)
Seagate 7200.11 500GB HDD
Pioneer DVR-218LBK

This setup currently idles around 42w in Windows XP.

You will probably see the difference of a few watts as a laptop hard drive has a very low idle wattage (I plugged in an 80 gig 5400 RPM drive the other night and it pulled 1w idle in my atom system). While your Seasonic is an 80 Plus PSU at such a low constant load I would hazard to guess it won't b...

Wow I would expect something a bit speedier than that from an interface that can handle 2x the bandwidth. I'm tempted to order one of these boards since I can obtain it through work but that $250 price tag is pretty hefty. I do like the 2 x Intel GB NIC's and the IMPI is a great selling point (no ne...

5w on a 24/7 system works out to: 5w*24 = 120W a day 120w*30 =3.5kWh a month an extra 3.5kWh a month is like .50 cents where I live. $6 over the course of a year isn't a whole lot. Going from a 120W Quad core setup to a 60W dual core HTPC setup on the other hand is a bit better since you're effectiv...

I've heard that PCI based SATA cards offer very poor overall performance and you're better off even getting a 1x SATAII PCIe card instead. 133MB on the PCI bus vs 250MB on a PCIe 1x.

The only thing that makes me hesitate is the $229 pricetag here in Canada.

Here is some new power consumption information from that same thread (it's been quite active in the last couple of weeks) Here are some preliminary numbers for the X7SPA/HF with 4GB DDR2-667 RAM (2 sticks of 2GB). All measurements taken with Kill A Watt EZ. Power supply is PC Power & Cooling Silence...

What are all the components you have in your build? I found that going from Vista to XP I dropped an extra 2W during idle so disabling Aero may net you an extra watt or two.

Do any of you know the low-wattage efficiencies of these PSUs? Any experience or links for passive cooling experiments with that CPU? I doubt it'd work in every case, even with a huge heatsink. I have seen posts from a few guys wth the x2 240 running them at stock speed at <.9v I figure with .8ishv...

Well I hopped onto the 785 bandwagon and put this together: AMD X2 240 Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H 2x2 Gig Mushkin EM2 DDR2 RAM Seagate ST3500630AS 500GB HDD Pioneer DVR-218LBK OCZ StealthXtreme 400W PSU Just got XP loaded onto it last night and I'm going to use Media Portal (can't justify spending at ...

Not to hijack the thread but what were your power consumption numbers like with the build you just finished with a 240e + 785 board? I just finished mine as well the other night and I'm currently working on tweaking it so my idle and stress power consumption numbers are as low as they can go.

Here's another thread on the motherboard from unRaid:

http://lime-technology.com/forum/index. ... ic=5133.30

What's depressing is the amount of power that the setup is using with two hard drives. My atom 330 with 3 1TB black drives uses the same amount of power.

Well considering it's using the ICH9R for SATA and according to the SPCR thread on Intel chipset power consumption the ICH9R is supposed to use roughly 4.4w of power. According to this thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/atom-d510-d510mo,2507-2.html the ICH7 would use about 3.3w. The process...

Well after pulling out the extra 4 gigs of RAM and a 4 port NIC power consumption dropped to about 110 in the bios. I then proceeded to do some tweaking in the bios for the vcore and the FSB. I dropped the vcore down to 1.125 (1.100 was unstable) and dropped the FSB to 200. Idle temps in ESXi and Vi...

Yeah I didn't realize there wouldn't be any power management at a bios level. What I'll test tonight is a windows install and a Linux install with stock settings to see what it pulls. Then I'll try underclocking and undervolting to see what gains can be made there. If I can pull less than 60W idle t...

ASUS P5K Deluxe for HTPC?

I was wondering if there's any point to me using a full ATX board as an HTPC motherboard. I've got a system that used to be a linux server and I want to recycle the parts vs having to go out and buy a new setup (785g +X2 45w). According to the Intel TDP thread the P35 is pretty efficient on paper bu...

Well I swapped out power supplies for the smallest Antec 80 Plus PSU available (380W). Now running Prime 95 on both cores with 1 HD and the CD-ROM drive plugged in I'm pushing 45W. Price difference was $23 after taxes which will pay itself off in 1.5 years of use vs the cheaper Cooler Master PSU I h...

I've got quite a number of 3.5 drives that I would be re-using in this system so 2.5" unfortunately aren't an option. The board has two slots but the ceiling is 3.25 gigs due to the 945 32 bit memory controller. Realistically I should be seeing something in the high 40's in terms of wattage then. I ...

Challenge with new Atom based ESXi box

So over the weekend I went out and splurged on some money for a proper case, RAM, and a spare PSU for my Atom ESXi box (which will serve as a router, file server, etc) running Linux distro's through ESXi. Here are the current components: ECS 945GCD-M (Atom 330) 4 gigs of RAM (2x2 Gig DDR2) 2xSeagate...
