Re: Western Digital Red 4TB & Se 4TB Hard Drives
Nice review. But I am now more uncertain than ever whether to get the 3TB or 4TB Red. I'm going to populate a HP Microserver so I'm looking for 5 drives total, over the next couple of years. Probably looking to buy 3x3TB or 3x4TB drives initially. Aside from the extra space, and cost/GB do you guys ...

Re: Wiring Dell DA-2 with PicoPSU for standby
It's not required. I wire the DA-2 trigger cable to ground, so the brick is on all the time (as most bricks are). I usually use a power strip though, cutting power to everything. But sometimes I forget to flip the switch and the stuff remains on. No problem. And finding good bricks in Sweden is a p...

Re: Western Digital launches new 2.5" Red Line and 4tb RED
Would love to see a review of the WD RED 4TB as well. Reading from the official WD specs the noise benchmarking could very well be accurate. The increase from the 3TB model is about 1dB seek and 2dB idle. The question is if Seagate's 4TB NAS drive is any better? I've looked at quite a few reviews bu...

Re: Wiring Dell DA-2 with PicoPSU for standby
Stupid question, but is this something you have to do if you want to use a PicoPSU and the Dell DA-1/2/3 and have your computer in standby? Or is it just to conserve power? I ran that Polish link through Google translate and it would seem that the standby power consumption decreased by about 1W? Sti...

Re: HP MicroServer
Any other ideas on fan models that can be used as replacements? The Scythe fan (SY1225SL12HPVC) seems to be discontinued and it could be a bother to find around these parts. Should I order one before stock is completely depleted? Also, I read a blog entry somewhere (http://ireckon.net/2013/03/the-n4...

Re: Replacement for Antec Aria mATX
The Xigmatek Gigas might just be what you need. An all aluminum mATX case with 4 120mm fans. At 10.94*12.68*15.59 inches W*H*D it's taller than other cubes. And it's not available yet, delivery est. March 30th for the one etailer that lists it already. Thanks, I'll look into that. Never heard of th...

Replacement for Antec Aria mATX
Any ideas? I have already committed to mATX (unfortunately) and want good circulation, quiet operation and a relatively low price. Need to run a future full-size GPU, and possibly a sound card but just one 3.5 or 2.5 hard drive and no optical drives. My first idea was to place the case inside a TV c...

Re: PicoPSU for i3-2100, discrete GPU
Thanks for the input. Yeah, I think I'll keep the PSU in the Antec Aria for the time being. Can't change it since it has a proprietary L-shaped design. I'd probably be better off buying a new case instead of using a PicoPSU to improve the case I have. It would probably cost me the same. I have a new...

PicoPSU for i3-2100, discrete GPU
Sorry for being a bit repetitive, I'm sure the PicoPSU has been done to death already ... I have a mATX system (Antec Aria case, Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3, i3-2100, Corsair Vengeance 8GB, Seagate 3.5'' SATA HD) that I've started to put together. Since I wanted to conceal the rig under the TV I'm look...

I certainly agree. The F2 is a formidable drive. Cool and doesn't vibrate much. Certainly shortlisted for a NAS now that WD has screwed up with their latest revision. Just to be clear. I don't really mind the general noise level of the F2. Just this nefarious whining it makes booting up, as well as ...

This DIY stuff got me interested. I was looking at a Synology or QNAP NAS myself, but have my doubts, about noise levels and torrent speeds. Basically I've been harassing both companies about the ability of a 1.2GHz ARM based NAS to handle high speed (20Mbit+) encrypted torrents. And they have been ...

Samsung F2 HD103SI annoying whirring
I just got a Samsung F2, and I probably need more for a NAS, but I am somewhat concerned with the sound it makes every 30-40 minutes as well as the nerve-wracking whirring it makes when booting up or coming out of S3. I had a WD drive five years ago that also did this thing, parking the head, or doi...
