Re: Quiet 4K Gaming PC Build Guide

Is there a particular reason why the WD Greens aren't mentioned when speaking about extra storage? I do know the difference between a Blue, Green and Red, but I was wondering wether not mentioning the Greens means they are not to be recommanded?

Great review. A major question rises tough. If I had to choose between these recent top-scoring models from Scythe (Mugen 4/Max - Kotetsu - Ninja), which one should I take and why?

Fractal Design introduces Dynamic Series & Silent Series R3

Interesting news from the much respected Scandinavian manufacturer! http://www.fractal-design.com/home/news/new-fans-from-fractal-design I'm eager to try those Dynamic fans, I'm not unhappy with the Fractal fans in my R4, but they could definitely be improved. I was considering Noctua Redux (NF-P14s...

Re: Seasonic G- or X-series?

I got a quick and friendly reply. They asked me to check some settings (BIOS, mostly), if none of those would help they'd send me a new unit and swap with the old one. I was asked to pay for it in advance, but I would get that money back once my unit was declared defunct. A fine arrangement but the ...

Re: Define R5 review

I just looked at some other reviews... be quiet! Silent Base 800 is a far superior case in both cooling and silence. There aren't that much reviews about that case yet, and some are not that enthousiast. Userreviews are rather scarce for now, I think it's safer to wait a little longer before labell...

be quiet! Silent Base 800

Be quiet! released its first case and as it turns out, it's a solid efort! http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/beQuiet/Silent_Base_800/ Although I dislike the looks (I'm far more happy with the straight and simple lines that my R4 offers), the presence of great fans, solid materials and a decent pric...

Re: Passively Cooled R9 270 by Powercolor

I actually don't see much use for passive cooled GPU's anymore, to be honest. A few years ago I had a HD4850 (Gigabyte). The card itself was silent, but without decent airflow the card got fried in no time. I had to buy extra casefans, modify the case and ended up with a louder system than I had bef...

Re: Seasonic G- or X-series?

That's probably the infamous "coil whine" which this platform is not exempt to. Keep it until you can stand it. Well, I can't stand it anymore... It keeps occuring now and then, not being very constant though. Sometimes it's gone after a few minutes, as I'm typing this it has been (clearly audible)...

Re: Seasonic G- or X-series?

Update A few months ago I bought an P-660. It was temporarily discounted and I planned a new GPU anyway (which I have bought in the mean time, an R9 270). Above that I'm considering a crossfire-setup some day, so the P-660 was definitely the best choice. So far so good, great performance. The fan d...

Re: Replacement for Fractal Define R4 140mm stock fans

Thanks, mate. I've been toying around with fans being controlled by my motherboard. Unfortunately, it's not great at that. Replacement for Fractal Define R4 140mm stock fans

A few days ago I ditched my humming Lian Li PC-A05 for a Fractal Design a Define R4. So far I'm very pleased with the sturdy case. Looks nice, great quality and a pleasure to work with. The 140mm fans that came with it are less impressive, though. They do the job and aren't extremely loud, but there...

Re: Corsair CX and CXM - anyone used these?

I use those models often, great budget models. As you might expect - given the price - they're just good. Nothing special. If all the other moving parts are high end, the PSU might be the loudest part. Above that, so far I had to RMA two times a CX430 because of abnormal coil whine. But then again, ...

Re: CPU cooler on GPU (super silent cooling)

An interesting idea that has crossed my mind several times, MattP. I often wonder why GPU's aren't like CPU's. In an ideal world a motherboard would have two chip-slots so that you can install a CPU and a GPU with an aftermarket cooler. Whenever I'm thinking about a case with perfect airflow, I have...

Re: I have really bad whine from my Seasonic P-520FL

Are the active-cooled Platinum PSU's also known for abnormal whining? I'm in no rush to buy a new PSU, but I've been considering a P-520, P-660 or X-650 for the last few weeks. The P-520 so far seemed top be the best pick, but this is yet another bad experience...

Re: Update 2 | 1st Build: Define Mini, X-400, i7-2700K, HD77

A nice built, so far I've made two silent PC's in the Define Mini. A splendid case, I love it. Can I ask you a question about the PSU and GPU combination? I've been talking about this in another thread, but I feel that a passive PSU isn't an advantage in this kind of set-up because it will heaten up...

Re: Fanless Power Supply PC Build Guide

@ ggumdol: Thanks for the input mate. I do not doubt the qualities of the Seasonic fanless PSU's, not at all. Every single review highlights the ability to withstand high loads (and temperatures). I'm more worried about the GPU. It seems to me that the a passive PSU would rise the GPU temperature in...

Re: Fanless Power Supply PC Build Guide

I'd like to add one question. As stated in another thread, I'm in the midst of finding a new PSU. After lots of reading and searching, I've narrowed my options to the Seasonic X-650 and the Seasonic P-460. Here in Belgium they're roughly the same price, the P-460 being slightly cheaper (€5) at the m...

I do agree about alternatives, but I've been happy with Seasonic PSU's for years. I have no reason to pick another brand. Thanks for the input, gentlemen. I've been thinking about that as well, that's why I also started to consider the P-460.
