Update and conclusion(of my case): A really small piece I left "airing" seems to have its smell reduced substancially, but i don't know if it lost its "smell-generating-power", as in when put in a closed case if it would generate more smell again. About the Firewire chip issue, I think you should search for the requirements/restrictions of the AudioInterface you plan to buy and compare with the motherboard you're planning to buy (or any PCI-e Firewire cards you can buy) to avoid buying an interface and then not having a way of connecting it.....
