Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
If putting 2 HBA is not a supported configuration (and where did you get this information from?) then I would like to be told before hand. I read everything about this card on their website (and also for the MB) and I didn't see anything that indicate this incompatibility. I'm a consumer, this is my...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
I think the supermicro card is the best value for money if you want to add 8 hard drives in addition to your MB internal SATA ports. Unless you plan to install you NAS with some un-supported linux distros and/or want hardware RAID, I don't know any better card. Don't buy the first version though (ie...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
Isn't there a GPU on board anyway? Unless you want to transcode video or something, you have no use for more on a server. Perhaps you should confirm it with them if you're unsure or google to see what others have done. the 1260L has an integrated GPU but 99.99999% of the MB in the world won't suppo...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
I forgot to mention something: I wasn't able to buy a box version of the E3-1260L, only OEM. You will to buy a CPU heatsink too, if you don't have one already. I opted for the SCYTHE Samurai ZZ, which should be more than enough for this CPU Any benchmarks??? I'm thinking to buy E3-1260L, but also t...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
I don't want to lecture you if you're not interested but that CPU is a singularly poor choice for a NAS. If the objective is to store data, maybe the Xeon is overkill. If someone has a very comfortable budget, s/he should not waste time with consumer components. I want power, stability and reliabil...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
Got the CPU today. indeed, most if not all retailer won't have this CPU in stock due to near-inexistant demand. they can get it order for you pretty quickly, thought. What motherboard did you use? I'm looking forwart to build 6x HDD NAS enclosure with this CPU. TYAN S5510 (S5510GM3NR) is nice :) no...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
Yeah, that I5 2500T looks a lot like the Xeon E3-1260L (and both with a TDP of 45W)
The Xeon has hyperthreading, ECC and 8 Mb of cache, though.
I just found a German etailer that has can get the Xeon (€260) in 3 days plus a couple of days to my home.
so I'll treat myself and get the xeon

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
... when they cost $200-$300, you mean. Because the cheap ones are in stock and people are buying them. Unfortunately, so far as I know Intel makes no cheap CPU that supports ECC anymore. AMD does. with low power, I meant below or equal to 45W. the Core i5-2500T also qualifies and it is also not av...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
I've checked with a few retailler and basically they will never have this product in stock. they have to order it. bummer, this will take 3 to 5 weeks! one of the vendor even confessed that they're giving up any low voltage CPU as there is no demand from business customers and little demand from con...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?
I do.
But I can't find it anywhere in Europe. A few stores have it listed but not in stock.
very frustrating, it was announced many months ago.

I would just take any non-PWM fan, 2pin or 3pin. Cut the connector from the original fan, solder it to the new one, ignoring the third RPM-cable if it's a 3pin fan. Or you could take a normal 3pin fan and connect it some other way, unless it's important that the HDD case powers it. you're right, I ...

unfortunately, there is very very little space in the HDD cage and an adapter will not fit. the 2pin male on the HDD case side cannot be (re)moved. wiring directly against the the 2 pin seems impossible to me. Actually, I also wanted to change the fan inside the power supply and also realized that i...

2 pin 80mm silent fan
Hi, I'm having problem finding a 2 pin 80mm fan! They're all 3 pin or it's not indicated in the specs. I want replace the fans in my HDD cages. The hard disk runs quite cool (data storage) even with the fan turned off but I still want to change the stock fans which run very loudly. I'm looking at ab...

moding?
I read of moding for gamer chassis, where you put funny blue light everywhere!
do you think I could buy a case like this one:
http://www.chieftec.com/bs-01b-b-b.html
and try to put 3x5.25 drive cage on the bottom?

looking for a 6-bay mini tower case
Hi there, I've been looking for a 4 months for a case that can fit my cabinet. I'm looking for a case that has 6 5.1/4" bays and can take mini ITX board, not ATX. my cabinet has room for a case of (H/D/L) of 35x42x36cm or 13x16.5x14 inches. It seems that no manufacturers even bother to build a 6-bay...
