Re: ASUS H170 Gaming Pro RAM

Yes, I have version 0703 which appears to be the latest Nope, its not the latest since may 26th. Weather you find it worth it to upgrade its up to you, i don't recommend it, unless you are having an issue that you need to fix. https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/813x757q90/923/xeadPo.jpg That's inter...

Re: ASUS H170 Gaming Pro RAM

Yes, I have version 0703 which appears to be the latest. I wasn't planning on replacing it. If an update becomes available, I'll dig out my one remaining very long cat-5 cable, connect directly to my router, and update from within the bios as you suggested.

Re: ASUS H170 Gaming Pro RAM

I've built my new PC and now I want to backup up the bios. EZ-Update doesn't seem to have that option. I loaded the utilities that came on the CD with the motherboard and didn't find anything that seemed like it would do the job. A search turns up ASUS Update on softpedia that doesn't mention Windo...

Re: ASUS H170 Gaming Pro RAM

The graphics card is to simply drive my 3 or 4 monitors. Before buying a GPU just to have multiple monitors, give a shot to intel iGPU, it should support triple monitor, and H170 Pro Gaming has all the possible video outs. I'm going to start out using the integrated graphics. If it doesn't work wel...

Re: Mid Tower ATX Case - looking for brand recommendations

Dude - you are just one step away from looking for spy satellite photos to see if your case can be spotted in the wreckage :) If I had any contacts in the intelligence community, I would have already done that :-) That said, I know I spend a fair bit of time pondering component selection. But, when...

ASUS H170 Gaming Pro RAM

I'm looking at the ASUS H170 Pro Gaming motherboard for my next build. I'm going to use this system for software development and light graphics work, with 3 or 4 monitors, no gaming, no OCing. For the processor, I'm looking at the i5-6600, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a graphics card to be determined later. T...

A first time for everything - train wreck

Monday I decided to order the Corsair Carbide Quiet 400Q case for my build. NewEgg was out of stock. Amazon only had one vendor that was selling it for $11 OVER list price. So, since Corsair had it in stock, I ordered it from them at list price. Tuesday I received confirmation it had shipped and UPS...

Re: NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case (Matte Black no Window)

What are people's thoughts on the NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case (Matte Black no Window)? Never built on it, but SPCR did review it NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case The H440's most glaring problem is its lack of ventilation. The front bezel has a nicely sized intake vent along its right edge but none on the oppo...

Re: Mid Tower ATX Case - looking for brand recommendations

A friend recommended the Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 because it supports multiple monitors. The Gigabyte is not recommended because of the aggressive power and fan control (likely noisier than ASUS Strix or MSI Gaming), the GTX 960 is not recommended because it's EOL. Unless you need some serious gaming ho...

Re: Mid Tower ATX Case - looking for brand recommendations

I've read some of the Amazon comments on the Corsair case and cable routing behind the motherboard panel is a pain. I intend to mount 2 or 3 SSDs back there. 1) if you think the corsair is a pain, the SOLO II doesn't have any spacing, you have to route behind the hdd cage, behind the motherboard tr...

Re: Mid Tower ATX Case - looking for brand recommendations

i like a lot what ASUS H170 PRO GAMING offers Not the ASRock? Well for me yes, for others, it will depend if they would plan more. Asus has more flexibility, all their fan headers can be PWM or DC controlled, making it easier to use the included fans or whatever anyone has in hand, while with AsRoc...

Mid Tower ATX Case - looking for brand recommendations

First, I'd like to thank everyone who helped me in my quest to build a quiet PC, let's see, whoa, it must have been about 7 years ago. It's getting old and somewhat worn out, but it's what I'm using to post this. It has an Antec Solo case, ASUS motherboard, the processor is an AMD Phenom II X4 955 w...

Re: Please critique this quiet but not silent $700 configura

like i said then, the nh-u12p se2 is a very good piece of kit. cheaper than the prolimatech and it comes with 2 very nice fans. thats spending pretty wisely in my mind, same story with the d14, but with the added performance of the beastly thing. i dont see processors really getting too much hotter...

Re: Please critique this quiet but not silent $700 configura

hmmm.... grab a noctua cooler and toss a 120mm fan on the back of the case. nh-u12p se2 should be great. The solo comes with a 3-speed fan that I understand is not the quietest. I hope you are suggesting I replace the existing fan rather than adding an additional one. most cost efficient? maybe wit...

Re: Please critique this quiet but not silent $700 configura

Well things came up and the Antec Mini P180 White Steel MicroATX Mini Tower is no longer available. I'm looking for a mid-tower case, preferably with some kind of built-in suspension for the hard drives and an esata connection. The esata connection seems to be the hard part. Firewire still seems to ...

520W and 620W Corsair PSUs apparently no longer available

The Corsair modular 520W and 620W PSUs are both manufactured by Seasonic and SPCR recommended. Go with those. The CWT manufactured Corsair units (almost all of them) are louder than the Seasonic ones. Unfortunately, those units are apparently no longer available. If you can afford it, also consider...

Can't speak for the standard fan in the P180 but the Nexus fans cool well with very little noise. I think I'll save myself the time and aggravation of swapping the standard fan later and go ahead and do the swap while I have an empty case. Hmmm. I've done some exploring and $700 sounds like a high compromise budget. I'll agree with ces, make a SSD the first choice. It truly is worth the cost. OCZ, Corsair or Kingston in the 60-64 GB range. Here's one example..... I don't follow AMD much, but you might like this..... I also agree that...

We need competition. If AMD goes under, Intel has no competition.

Thanks for the reply.

Time to builid a new mid-tower pc
