Saw this on OCN. It doesn't appear to be out or readily available, so it could be vaporware, but who knows. Would be nice if they sent samples (if the product/technology is real) to SPCR.

Sabertooth has x16/x16/x4 compared to the P6X58D-E which has x16/x8/x8 or x16/x16/1 (you can change it in the BIOS).

Other than that the Sabertooth looks like a better board. Go for it if you don't plan on 3-way SLI/CF (which, as a silencer, you probably don't) or x8 RAID controllers.

Also consider selling that Q6600 and getting a newer 45nm C2Q if you can afford it. I would think if you sold the 6600 your out of pocket costs would be around $100. The 45nm chips run cooler.

SPCR used to overvolt to 1.4V but if you read their latest revision to the heatsink methodology article, they couldn't get consistent results by doing so.

Most coolers are slightly more than dual-slot including the Twin Turbo. I think the only one that isn't is the Setsugen and I doubt it'll be able to cool a 5870 which I intend on upgrading to.

Thanks (and sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner!). Basically I can't find a good GPU cooler and so I'm looking into modding the top of my P182 and making a loop just for that. Good to know WC won't be a problem.

So here's a unique question. These fans are all favored at SPCR because they are silent to us human beings. But what about pets - dogs in particular? Can the lower frequency noises that we can't hear be bothersome to them?

SPCR says the TriCools were OEM'd by Dynatron. Considering YLs sell for around $5 from *retailers* I think it's feasible to say a company as large as Antec that can move as many of the fans, could easily get a deal for $2-$3 per fan. I can't imagine Dynatron is manufacturing them cheaper than that.

With air cooling you've just got the sound of the fans. Nexus and some others aren't bad. They're quiet and they don't sound annoying. I've never used or built a WC system but it seems like it would have an annoying sound signature just of the water flowing in the tubes - something like a fish pump ...

Just based on sound signature I wasn't absolutely sure if my Noctua fans were fans or jets. The Nexus fans are much smoother sounding and push more air.

These will also work if you want a cable rather than a PCI slot solution. I use them and they seem to work. 5V, 7V, and 12V.

My Nexus fans do the same. I just lubricate them with sewing machine oil and they work fine... for a few days (on a hot heatsink).

If you don't want to deal with a full-blown fan controller Nexus makes some relatively cheap cables that can downvolt to 7V and 5V.

FYI, Nexus are rebranded Yate Loons (at least the 120mm Nexus) with a resistor to slow them to 1000 RPM. Where did you get the YLs from? IPS panel. True 8-bit color reproduction, not the 6-bit with dithering/FRC you find on TN. Much better horizontal and vertical viewing angles.

I use this monitor and love it. No noise at all, not even if I stick my ears close to it.
