Maybe it's already been mentioned, but how do you guys check the fan speed in RPM? MSI Afterburner, Speedfan, and the default Catalyst control panel all give no information. Edit: GPU-Z works fine, and also shows the VRM temps and GPU amperage :) Still doesn't show in other software though, maybe it...

Re: UPS For Seasonic X-650

The x-650, like most modern PSU's, uses active PFC. That's why there's no longer a switch on the back for choosing between 110-230 volts, the PFC circuitry takes care of sudden drops in voltage, and buffers the voltage so that the current is pulled in form of a sinewave. So, you don't need a pure si...

Re: Buzzing is driving me nuts!

Checking what's causing the buzzing shouldn't be that hard? Use Furmark to stress your GPU, Prime95 to check your CPU, and use them combined - if the buzzing only occurs with CPU or GPU, it's the MB or the GPU, if it occurs with both and the buzzing is exactly the same, it probably is the PSU.

Have you already removed the front 5,25'' bay covers yet? (things you remove when installing DVD-drive) See how much effect it has - maybe it's also worth trying to remove the left side panel, as your case has no intake at the front. Re: Fan Distance from Passive Card ?

It probably doesn't need much airflow, yet only a front-fan might not be enough: When we look at temperatures the GT 430 performs well in a case with good airflow. It should be noted however that the card does require good ventilation and air moving past it as when this is removed we see temperature...

Nowadays, there's very little that uses the -12 volt. Only modems use it, and the serial port makes its own -12 volt from 5 volt. Even the audio chip on your motherboard only uses positive voltages :D

With the reference designs currently on the market, you'll at least have to replace the heatsink, as they all look something like this: http://static.techspot.com/articles-info/348/images/Image_12S.jpg When custom cooler designs hit the market, you can limit the modding to a minimum by buying a Kama...

Re: Scythe Katana 3 + Scythe S-FLEX SFF92B Cooling Sempron

If you enable PWM control and set it to 'silent' or something like that in your bios, the fan speed will never reach 2000 RPM... With a CPU like that and 1200 RPM casefans you could probably even run it fanless :P, my guess is that the Katana 3-fan won't have to spin faster than 1000 RPM, which will...

Have you removed those fan grills that Lian-Li uses already? They are very restrictive, and make the fans noisy. Also, what are the temps? Re: Coil whine issue - Not solved - tried 4 different PSU's

You could try to determine if the whining is produced by the CPU/MB or GPU by testing these components separately. So, use Intel Burn Test to see if stressing your CPU makes an audible difference, then test with ATItool/Furmark if stressing your graphics card is making the noise. If you still don't ...

Re: Quietest setting for fans on AC Twin Turbo Pro?

You should use a PWM --> voltage converter, so that it has the full 12 volt blast when needed but can be passive in idle :D But, other than this solution, there are plenty of ways to do this. You could put a resistor in series with the 12 volt coming from the graphics card. However, this will mostly...

According to the screenshot, your CPU fan is running at 2000 rpm... You could try to remove the stock AMD fan, and hang the Nexus PWM fan on...

Re-installing a motherboard is a PITA indeed. For a product that probably doesn't consume more than 6 watts at idle, 2 fans at full blast sound a bit overkill indeed - slowing them down would be the appropiate thing to do. The thing is, some people strongly advise against temperature-regulated cooling, such as this guy on Anandtech: The OP is n...
