Re: Issue with Heatsink in Silverstone GD04/GD05
sorry to hear that it got you too! I'm still going with the stock cooler for now, but I'm in the middle of the move so I haven't been playing with it yet. It's sad that Silverstone hasn't made this issue clear or addressed their customer's needs when it doesn't work out. It would be one thing if it ...

Re: FT02 Build Advice
sorry I forgot to update here, thank you guys for the insight, I also posted over at the infinite hardforum FT02 thread. I ultimately decided to pull the trigger on it. My investigation leads me to believe that the stock cooling solutions I have will work admirably in the case, and that my current s...

FT02 Build Advice
Hi All, I'm moving my rig to an FT02, but have concerns about VGA cooling. I emailed Silverstonetek about the Scythe musashi, and they said cooling performance would be decreased due to heatpipe orientation. Great. My stock VGA coolers have horizontally oriented heatpipes, but they exhaust mostly do...

Scythe Big Shuriken Clearance
Finally an answer! The clearance for RAM beneath the Scythe Big Shuriken is ~32mm (a little more from the height of the CPU). I know I've wondered that on several occasions over the last few years and I suspect many others have. It's still a huge pain to install as it is hard to push the pushpins do...

Silverstone NT01-E - *don't buy* (unless aware)
I mentioned this in my other post, but here's the end result: on mATX boards the Silverstone NT01-E blocks the first expansion slot. If you are looking for an H67 mATX board, all such currently commercially available boards have the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot in the first position, so the NT01-E precludes us...

Re: Silverstone GD04/05 - Remove dust filters?
Here is a picture of the filters (attached). They grating is pretty big - I get the sense that it won't actually block much dust, and will do more to generate turbulence and resist airflow than anything, so I think I'll take them out for now. Edit: there's actually a mesh underneath, so actually thi...

Re: Issue with Heatsink in Silverstone GD04/GD05
If you zoom in on the image of the board on newegg you can see that the 3rd and 4th slots are labeled x4 and x8 respectively. yeah that's too bad since they have that board at microcenter too: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0364087 It's too bad but I think I'm ju...

Re: Issue with Heatsink in Silverstone GD04/GD05
Actually I did find an mATX Z68 board for $124 (so $40 more than my current board, but not a deal breaker) that has a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot in the 3rd and 4th positions, although I'm not sure either of those actually gets 16 channels: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813128495

Re: Issue with Heatsink in Silverstone GD04/GD05
Those are P67 and X68 chipset boards though, I mean H61/H67 boards, which have the HDMI out and are more affordable - hence my application for the HTPC. At least on Newegg all the H67 boards I found had the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot in position 1 :-(. A Z68 board would work but are nearly twice the price of...

Re: Issue with Heatsink in Silverstone GD04/GD05
So I just measured the height of the stock intel cooler that comes with the i3-2100 and it is only 45mm tall, so nearly the same height as the NT07, so I think I'll sadly end up going with that, hopefully I won't run into noise issues. If anyone can think of a passive cooling option that would fit t...

Issue with Heatsink in Silverstone GD04/GD05
Hi All, So I've started putting together an HTPC in Silverstone's GD04 case. I've got a lot of good things to say about how that case is designed but I won't get into that here, suffice to say however it is well suited to taking the NT01-E passive CPU cooler (I'm running an i3-2100 stock in there). ...

Re: Silverstone Grandia GD05: A Versatile HTPC Case
So looking at it it seems that NT01-E will work nicely with the GD04/05 EXCEPT: I just installed in the heatsink on the board, and the PCI-E slot is entirely blocked by the heatsink. What's more, unless you remove the optical drive no other configuration will work in the case, and this isn't just fo...

Silverstone GD04/05 - Remove dust filters?
Hi All, reading some posts here it's been suggested that removing dust filters can allow fans to work more easily, which makes perfect sense but you do lose their functionality. So I'm wondering if anyone has had personal experience with the Silverstone GD04/05 case fans - have you kept the filters ...

Hi All, Building a new HTPC and got an Antec BP-550 for it because it was a great price (forty-something), almost modular, and the newegg reviews were extremely positive, but I was wondering if anyone here has had personal experience with it before I crack it open? Any other suggestions for what I s...

Antec P193 case for sale - Greater Boston Area only
Hi All, shipping's too high ($30+) so unless you want to front that, this is really a deal for New Englanders. I am selling my Antec P193 case that is being used in my current rig. It is in absolutely perfect working and cosmetic condition, and I have absolutely every component it came with includin...

Case Selling Advice
Hi All, I recognize this probably isn't the best place for this, but I wasn't sure where else to post. I've been trying to sell my case, an Antec P193, but have run into the clear issue of shipping costs which limits me to selling in my area (greater Boston area). The problem is I haven't been able ...

Re: Silverstone Grandia GD05: A Versatile HTPC Case
my GD04 just arrived. I don't have the components to build into it yet but I have to echo what the reviewers have already said: this is a very well-built case, it really amazes me that they brought it in at $100. My Antec P193 had similar build quality at $200 (albeit about twice the size, but I don...

Re: Silverstone Grandia GD05: A Versatile HTPC Case
As someone mentioned I'm also interested in the NT01, I just bought the GD04 and a scythe Big shuriken but haven't installed the big shuriken yet. I have a granda kama cross in another case and even that interferes with the RAM a bit making it a pain - not only that, but top-down fans really do gene...

Thanks! I'll try to track down those 140mm slip streams then, maybe I can find one at the local store to give a try to see how its noise reduction is. The fan on the CP-1000 hasn't been a bother, what's troublesome is the very high-pitched ringing. It's soft, but still very annoying due to its high ...

Sorry for the long exposition on the last post, but here is an update: After sleeping with it a few days, I think I can live with the current noise levels. Thanks for the great insight as always Luca, Here's what I ended up doing, I looked into the Scythe Ninja 2 and the CNPS10X Flex that you suggested, as opposed to the Scythe Grand Kama Cross. So I measured the inside of the case last night and had an interesting result, there is indeed almost exactly 152mm of total clearance between the CPU and the side-fan. I suspect that in the images above the side fan was removed, which gives you an extra 13mm, making a huge difference. So, with the ...

If I can fit 155+mm fans in the P193, the Scythe Orochi seems like a tempting option (although it's not 1366 compatible, and xoxide doesn't have an adapter bracket on offer for it...) wow, does that mean that there's more like 158mm of clearance? Antec Customer support would only verify 145mm, but someone verified 150-152mm, and that Noctua you have in there is specc'd as 155mm. So, do you think that the Noctua is falsely specc'd, or do you think that the P193 has more like 155mm...

The Big Shuriken is designed as a low profile unit, far lower than you really need and for that reason it has a 120x12 fan instead of the normal 120x25 size. P193 Case fan choice
Hi All, I'm building a new rig in the Antec P193, which is quite spacious in general except when it comes to it's width. The 200mm side fan protrudes into the case, giving it only 150-152mm of clearance for the CPU cooler. I've chased down a lot of air cooling options with good cooling at low noise,...
