My opinion is bottom PSU is far superior. Hot air rises, and a top mounted fan (or opening without a fan running) can be a big advantage, and can be utilized (without blocking the opening) to reduce the total number and/or speed of fans on a quiet PC build. it's not like you can't make your own divider between the power supply and the rest of the case. and with the option to pull air in from the bottom, the need for a divider to prevent the PSU from sucking in air warmed by the GPU is decreased. lack of divider makes the case roomier and certainly help...

i use duct tape. works fine.

are the side panels flat?

the panels go on and off completely perpendicular to the case. they don't hinge out at all (i've broken some of the clips off this way). they go on about half an inch back from the fully closed position.
