Re: Which case for a fanless system?

Does the PSU fan spin at low loads? Is it loud? Can you replace it with a standard PSU? Good point HFat. I hadn't thought of that. The fan in the 6610's power supply always spins. It's reasonably quiet, but I can tell when it's on. Sorry, I don't own any kind of sound meter. It sounds like maybe 50...

Re: Which case for a fanless system?

The Morex 6600 and 6610 are cases designed for fanless boards that would let you use your 5.25" DVD drive.
I have a 6610, and I like it. It's quite a bit bigger than the T3500.

I don't know much about the mini tower cases.

Re: Airflow for a passive cooled ASUS E35M1-I DELUXE MB

I built a HTPC using the Atom/Ion counterpart to that board. (the at3iont-i deluxe) I learned a few things that I wish I'd known before I started. Here's what I can remember, that you might want to consider. My original plan was to cool it passively. But, just to see what would happen, I put a 500 R...

Re: Asus E35M1-I DELUXE + M350 case: should the fan blow in

What fully passive, vesa-mountable, pint-size case is good then ? I can recommend the Morex T-3500. It's larger than the M350, with room for a slim optical drive, but you still won't be able to see it if it's mounted behind a monitor. SPCR took pictures of one: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article...

Re: What Causes "snappiness" in Performance

Let's be nice guys. :) There is a big difference between case #2, and case #3 in your first post. If you open a Word document from Windows explorer, and MS Word is not open, your computer must first run MS Word. This involves finding on disk: the application itself, any dlls it uses, icons, fonts, s...

Re: What to do with D510MO?

emulator box for old school consoles (NES, SNES, PSX, etc)
Maybe not for the PSX. I can say from experience that the D510MO gets choppy trying to run ePSXe.

Here's the product page for that board on the Asus website:
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=iHWm73RqE6MCmCtw

Click on the the tab that says 'download'. Pick 'other' from the dropdown box, and you can download the manual, or the qualified vendor list for RAM.

One other thing to consider is that in a case that small there isn't any easy way to suspend or enclose the hard disk, to make it quieter. They just give you one place to bolt it in, and there isn't much room to play around with. Maybe you could use some rubber grommets, I don't know. A tiny case wi...

Those boards have different stock clock speeds. The 330 runs at 1.6 GHz, while the D525 runs at 1.8 GHz, however, the 330 is popular for being easy to overclock. I have an at3iont-i which I overclocked to 2.0 GHz without any problems. I use a 120mm fan running at 550 rpm though. I would agree with e...

I have built one computer using a board with an atom 330 and ion graphics, and another computer using the d510mo board. The big difference is the gaming capability. I haven't even been able to run a PlayStation 1 emulator (epsxe) the d510 board without it getting choppy. Another difference is that t...

I have an atom/ion board, and I play Starcraft 2 on it. I overclocked the board to 2.0 GHz though, and not all boards let you do that. I don't think any of the intel ones do. I have an Asus at3iont-i. It runs well enough on low detail at 1280x1024. I occasionally get a message at the bottom of the s...

Glad I could help. :) @colm: I don't have Windows 7, but in XP, as long as you turn on 'data execution prevention' you also get PAE. I think it's on by default. If it's working, you'll see it on this screen. http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/67/systemproperties.th.png Mine doesn't say 4GB or ram be...

The D510 is an x86-64 processor. It can run 64 bit and 32 bit operating systems. It's the same instruction set as the core 2, i7, and everything in between. It's as real as any other '64 bit' processor you'd buy today. Physical address extension (PAE) means that the processor will also allow a 32 bi...

My favorite linux distribution that does what you're asking for is called "puppy linux". It should run well on a flash drive on the hardware that you've mentioned. I've never used BartPE, so I can't compare those. Linux can be a little but hard to get used to, so if you haven't used it before I woul...

I think that any fan at any reasonable speed will cool that CPU just fine. Having two fans is probably unnecessary. I have a similar board, an Asus at3iont-i. I thought that I would have to be clever putting it together, but I just put a 120mm fan right on the cpu heatsink, pushing air up, at only 5...

I think the problem was the firmware on the SSD. The system doesn't freeze if I boot from a different disk, or from the SSD since I put the new firmware on it. Still, I can't figure out why memtest gave me that one error. I've run memtest overnight three times since then and haven't seen any other e...

The power brick didn't have much information on it. It just said 19v at 4.47A, which is 90 watts, which you already knew. Okay, the molex is correct, it's a molex out, like from a psu, rather than a molex in for a drive. It's odd. I'll try to explain again. The motherboard supplies the power, but th...

What I know.

I just bought an AT3IONT-I Deluxe a week ago for a new build. I'm still putting the machine together. I've had a lot of problems with the build, but I'll tell you what I know, and maybe someone can give advice on the problems I'm having. The board has a molex connector, with pins, not holes. (I thin...
