I agree, a good test would at least do it inside a case. But i'm sure SPCR would do a complete review.

if I spent $1000 on a CPU, I don't think spending $60-70 on a cooler is going to really an issue.

I'd wait for the HR-02. I have a megahalems on my 930.. with 2 S-Flex F's (on a fan controller) and its quiet enough for me.

I have my megahalems on pretty tight, the screws are spring loaded so I went until the screws stopped. But this is on an intel board, so I am using the provided backplate. not sure how it is on the AMD mounts, but mine does not move at all.

If it keeps up with the current top dogs, i'd probably switch over to it so I can have access to all my ram slots again.. LOL

finally got mine up and running.. not much air flow from the bottom fans, at least not as much as I was expecting..

my i7 930 w/ megahalems idles really low though (case is right beside an A/C vent).. my GTX480's idle in low 50's....

I already got the motherboard, plus this rig is going to also be used for gaming, so I figure I'd sacrifice a bit on that one.

later on in the year, i'll probably build up a less powerful machine for regular use, and leave this one for pure gaming.

yup and that is why I also asked about fan controllers. I was thinking of going push/pull with a fan controller.

But with the new HR02 being announced, I kind of want to see how that performs. The way its designed, it is a nice option to go into my fortress case.

well, let me clarify, heat is really the secondary issue, its really trying to reduce overall noise, now my thinking here is, if it can cool better, then I can reduce my fan speed and maintain something relatively cool.

well, the PC is in my room, which can get quite warm itself, and I usually like to leave it on overnight as it compresses videos. which only takes a couple hours at most, and for the rest of the night it'll usually sit idle. so to me if its the difference between 41, to 38 degrees, i'll take it.

As another option, you can always put a second fan on the backside of a TRUE too. I've done that with mine, and it certainly boosted performance a decent bit :). Only issue is having to somewhat dury-rig the mounting, but it can be done - I used bungee cord. yea, I was thinking that. but i'd go out...
