Re: Fractal Design Mini build plans
That is a sweet looking case! If it's mostly for gaming - would it be acceptable to have a very quiet machine at idle, and some noise under load? I'm thinking with both proc and vid card overclocked, that will be more achievable.

Re: Opinions on this build?
I just built a system with a Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B and a pair of Ripjaws, and I can confirm they don't interfere. I installed the heatsink, then added the ram, and then attached the fan to the heatsink no problem. Now, if I wanted to add more ram later, I'd need to detach the fan first, but that's no...

Re: Quiet SB Moderate Gaming Build - feedback please
Thanks! After lowering fan speeds using the Asrock AXTU utility and the MSI Afterburner utility, the system is very quiet. I'm finding the most noticeable noise is now caused by case resonance. Pressing with my hand on the top and side of the case reduces the noise right away. I suspect the 3 fans t...

Re: Quiet SB Moderate Gaming Build - feedback please
Just downloaded and ran Furmark v1.9, chose the 720 Benchmark preset, score is 2278 (37fps). This is with everything at stock, nothing overclocked. Ambient temp (motherboard sensor) is 23C - vid card went from 29C to 56C during the benchmark. Vid card fan (default settings) speed went from 40% to 59%.

Got all the parts, built my computer, and have been enjoying how ridiculously fast it is compared to my old POS. Here's the parts I wound up choosing. Cool, let us know what you think. I'm in the process of building a new system (currently delayed by chipset situation) and was looking at the xfx dual fan cards. One guy here was very positive about the 6870 dual fan, while another said his made a low vibrating sound. link

Re: Parts list critique for long time geek, first time build
Looks like a good build, I have a couple of suggestions. 1) I agree that your PSU is overkill, especially with only one video card. You can save $40 by going with a Antec TruePower New TP-650 , which got a great review by SPCR . 2)With everything else quiet, the noise from your GTX 470 will stick ou...

SSD + data drive question
I'm in the process of building a new pc (currently interrupted by the P67 mobo situation). I'm going to have an SSD, most likely a Crucial C300, for OS and programs. I'd like to also get a regular drive for data files. Is there a way to make sure it only turns on when needed? I don't want to negate ...

Thanks for your posts. I just want to mention again that I don't care about a loud system when I am playing a game. Important is the idle mode of the graphic card... Here's a comparison of many high end cards idle noise (stock cooling) from Anandtech. LINK http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph41...

What's your current system? What games will you be playing on the new system? Just trying to get a sense if you can wait a month or so for fixed Sandy Bridge motherboards to get back on the market. You can look at the rig I'm planning for ideas, LINK.

Re: Silent PC with ability to play games
What's your timeframe? Do you need a new system right away? Or could you get by with your current setup for another month or two? If you can wait, I'd recommend getting a Sandy Bridge based system when motherboards are available again. Also, by that time, there may be more info on the new C400 SSD.

Well, looks like the decision to wait or not has been made for me due to the Intel SATA bug. I looked at newegg, seems like you can't buy any sandy bridge motherboard right now. Hopefully the C400 ssd will be out by the time I can buy a system.

Found the answer to one of my questions, the Asrock P67 PRO3 motherboard has one four-pin connector for the CPU cooler and four three-pin connectors for auxiliary fans. Thanks michaelius, checked out that roundup. Not an easy read even after translation, there must be some polish word that translates both to something fan related, and the word 'placenta'. Anyway, looks like it did pretty well being the 2nd quietest in the roundup.

Yeah... I would have selected a much different group of fans. And the xbits reviews just don't seem as thoughtful as SPCR's. Sort of the difference between a gourmand and gourmet. I agree. In the comments of the article they explained that they excluded some fans because they already reviewed them ...

How about a Lian Li Lancool PC-K7B? It's a mid tower case for about $90 with two 120mm fans in the front, both with removable filters. Nothing on the sides, only 1 120mm in back and PSU for exhaust.
