Re: Best Case for the Inevitable GTX 680

The Revoltec hasn't been reviewed in English it seems. It's regular ATX though.

Re: Best Case for the Inevitable GTX 680

The Revoltec Sixty3 is quite nice, I use it with a GTX480 with the big Accelero cooler. It's got space for 140mm fans all around.

Re: Building your own fan controller.

Sure, although I'm no electronics expert. This is only for valtage controlled fans, no PWM. I built it for two Noctua 140mm fans and it works very well. If there is a specific question, ask. I assume you can read the electronic schematic on page one. Just be careful to copy the wiring correctly. The...

Re: Lian Li PC-C50, "passive" tower cooler, or top-down?

I think you don't feel the air because the fins create turbulences. The same happened with my case intake fans when I tried mounting them directly onto the side or front panels. So I don't use side panel fans and only got front intake fans where I could hang them two inches back from the intake hole...

Did you try some spacers from the fan against the cards or something else inside so the panel can't vibrate?

Re: Building your own fan controller.

I found and built this controller: http://www.modding-faq.de/index.php?artid=510 It's in German but the project is very simple, if someone needs translation, just ask. This controller also features a capacitor in case fan needs a high starting voltage. If you choose a beefy transistor it can power s...

Re: Seasonic X-1050 PSU: Gold at Kilowatt+

A midrange gaming PC should use about 600W already if you account for aging, so add another graphics card and overclocking and 1000W isn't that ridiculous anymore.

Re: Seasonic X-1050 PSU: Gold at Kilowatt+

Interestingly noise it is much better in the hotbox compared to other PSUs, so it would be suited for hot isolated cases, where it wouldn't draw air directly from outside.

Re: 120mm vs 140mm

The bigger fan should have more airflow at the same RPM. If you lower the speed of the bigger fan to match that of the smaller one, its air flow will drop to that of the smaller one roughly. The starting voltage is a non-issue if you connect it to a fan controller with a capacitor to jumpstart the f...

Re: Lian Li PC-C50, "passive" tower cooler, or top-down?

No problem, about top or tower cooler:
The tower cooler will transport the heat further away from the mainboard. So if you use case fans to cool the heatsink, it should be a sensible combination.

Re: Lian Li PC-C50, "passive" tower cooler, or top-down?

I'd say no problem using the case fan for the CPU heatsink. For light loads like movies and browsing a big heatsink would probably cool the CPU enough without a fan at all. So just try to lower their speed, and if they're still too loud, get some fans with sleeve bearings instead of ball bearings. O...

Re: Asus fan speed control

I meant that a fan controller would still let the original fan speed curve work, but shifted down. That way maybe even the factory setting could be silent. My board jumps to 100% speed at 65°C regardless what I set it to. Now with a silent adapter it runs 100% at 700RPM. :)

Re: Asus fan speed control

My Gigabyte mainboard is also bad regaring fan control. I solved it by adding a silent adapter, so even when the board wants 100%, it gets 7V or whatever. :) Use with caution of course.

Re: Design idea for silent mATX case

The dust wouldn't be as visible on gray cloth maybe. I've had mostly problems with higher pitched resonaces. The wavelength of a standing wave inside a say 5" space is 1350Hz. That's what I can hear inside my case easily, which is internally about 5" wide. Lower pitched vibrations come from the fans...

gaming PC review: case, CPU and GPU cooler, PSU case fans

Hi, my camera isn't very good, so I only took images to show how my setup fits inside the case. There is a mess of fan cables at the bottom. I need a fan controller, since the Noctua 140mm case fans don't start up at low voltage. http://s13.postimage.org/7twgr3rrn/IMG_0021.jpg Enviroment: Components...

Re: Does "Evacuate the heat" role for the PSU work?

I put a Corsair AX750 to suck air out from the case (PSU placed at the bottom). The GTX480 above it seemed to heat it up because after short time at high load the PSU fan would spin up rather high. I turned the PSU upside down and with its own air intake it stays silent, other temps seem unaffected....

Re: Noctua NF-F12 "Focused Flow" PWM Fan

I bought Nocta fans because of the bearings. Unfortunately they tend to vibrate when firmly mounted to a CPU sink, and on there their bearings would be most benefitial for longevity. When hanging from cable ties the'yre better, and I could use the focussed flow design for front intake. The 140mm mod...

I had good expereience with HIS, and MSI cyclones seem to be recommended here too. Though if it'S a cramped case and the air inside heats up, the fan will be heard as they turn faster. Look for a card which you can undervolt.

Re: Average load powerful gpu vs full load "quiet" gpu

A more powerful card would probably be quieter if you tax it as much as a cheaper card can go, simply because the card would be designed to handle its maximum power output. I recently got hold of a GTX480, and with an aftermarket cooler it is the most silent card I've had. Before I got lower midrang...

I didn't write about my enviroment. I tested at night, where no cars drove by and it's silent. My case is a Revoltec Sixty 3, which is perforated on all sides, so all noise comes through easily. It is on the floor next to my feet, no carpet. I'm very intent on silent operation, I like to listen to m...

Re: Sapphire HD6670 Ultimate F[a]nless Card in Single Fan Ch

Low speed fans lowering pressure "against" the fins sounds nice, I never thought about it. I recently mounted my CPU fan to suck air away from the board (top-blow heatsink). I didn't notice increases in temperature, maybe even helped a little on my low RPM setup. I think slowly blowing relatively ho...

Hi Tetreb, thank you for the feedback. I was posting above based more on what I've read and what I think, it's good to hear from someone that's used it that the A.X.P.II is a good product. I suspect you could use MSI afterburner, or similar, to reduce the fan speed in exchange for higher temperatur...

Re: Sapphire HD6670 Ultimate F[a]nless Card in Single Fan Ch

1. The system is used mainly for video playback, blu-ray and high bit rate 60fps stuff. I had tried and returned the fan less HIS 6570 because of temperature reaching the high 70's. Would the Sapphire be much cooler, perhaps in the 60's? 2.As a comparison, the temperature of the current setup runni...

Re: How powerful graphics card can i cool quietly?

I got the Accelero extreme plus 2 for a GTX480, which is a power hog, but I undervolted the card a bit from 1075mV to 963mV. The fans spin up to 40% (1290RPM) at full GPU load in newer games. The temperatures dropped by almost 20° and 15° for GPU and PCB. It has a PWM connector which can be plugged ...
