Re: Fanless VGA Cards list -- a start!

I'm not sure if this is the place to put this information but Sapphire has announced a new graphics card called R7 250 which is passively cooled. The GPU aboard the card is clocked at 800 MHz. Aboard the card users will also find 1 GB of GDDR5 memory, which runs over a 128-bit wide memory interface ...

Re: josephclemente's SilverStone SG05 MINI ITX + fanless ATX

How do you like the Node 304 cases and builds? I saw some sceptical comments on the quality of certain parts on the case. But you're content? Also, you couldn't just briefly wright the hardware you use for the gaming rig, and give a short comment on the noise level and power draw, perhaps? I really ...

Re: Any midrange graphics cards quiet when idle?

Ah, so there's not much point in getting the version with 2GB memory then? But aren't there loads and loads of cards with this problem (GDDR5) then? I don't get it, it seems like a very important oversight and big problem. *edit* When I looked up the P/N on the stores site for the card, and found th...

Re: Any midrange graphics cards quiet when idle?

Feel free to trawl through the Techpowerup and HT4U reviews. It's been a problem since GDDR5 was first used by both Nvidia and AMD. I found out the hard way when I bought this HD 5770 a few years back. Nvidia figured out a way to solve the problem with the release of the 6xx, AMD didn't. I'm guessi...

Re: Any midrange graphics cards quiet when idle?

7750 has issues when one use two monitors, you say. I have a monitor as well as my TV connected to the computer. I'm guessing that qualifies as "two monitors", right? If yes, does it only have the problem when they are both on, or all the time, as long as they're connected?

That's wonderful. You seem to be using integrated graphics though, which, I guess, is why it uses so little power. I wish I could do that, but I think my computer is simply too old. I look forward to getting a completely new one eventually, but that's in the future.

Re: A new PSU in the 300-400W range?

Um... oh. I thought you rather made a calculation based on various information of the computer parts you have (I have seen online calculators mentioned that are supposed to do that). And that "from the wall" was some technical term, I was unfamiliar with. But to make an actual measurement, well, yea...

Re: A new PSU in the 300-400W range?

Pricier: There's the Kingwin LZP-550, Seasonic X series, including the fanless versions....with your separate PSU chamber.....might need to have slow intake fan to provide airflow....Corsair RM 450/550... If I allow myself to consider that price range. The Kingwin isn't available here, but various ...

Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

I just put in an order. I actually ordered both of the cables you linked to. I figured I might as well, it's not like they cost a fortune anyway. Now I keep my fingers crossed. Waiting for the package to arrive I'll probably look at a new PSU. Mine has gotten pretty noisy.

Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

The 4 pin contact on the cooler fan cable also has a blue cable. I took a picture of that too and here's what it looks like: http://imageshack.com/a/img36/3951/ex6o.jpg So, from left to right: blue, green, red, black. So the one that's "left behind" is the blue cable, just as Abula said was typicall...

Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

I'm afraid I have gotten rid of the original gfx cooler, so I'm not sure how I would check wether the video card can run the cooler fans automatically or not. And could you adress my question regarding the type of connector on the fan controller and my fans? You say once again, if I understand you c...

Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

So there's no adapter to fit the cooler fan cable to the video card (which is the way it's usually done), but there is one to connect it to the fan controller, did I get that right? Is any of the two preferable? Assuming I can lower the speed significantly with the fan controller, it seems to be the...

Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

I took out the graphics card just now and checked. I found one contact on the card and it was called SCN1, it was a very small 3 pin contact. And no, unfortunately the connector from the cooler didn't fit. Neither did it fit to the extension cables that I've used on the other fans (CPU and case fans...

Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

The gfx cooler cable is connected to a contact on which it says 7V. There's one where it says 12V too, but that makes it spin even faster (which is no doubt obvious to you guys). But for the 7V contact, yeah, I suppose it does run at full speed. And I am curious about how much I can reduce the noise...

Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

Um, so literally nothing happens when I try to change the speed in Catalyst Control Center. :D I've probably messed up somehow. Re: HD 7850 reviews

How does the PowerColor passive compare (roughly) to the active ones? Is there any significant difference between just that one and the active ones, if you know what I mean?
And another question, do we know if they fixed the single monitor idle consumption problem?

Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

What temperatures should I try not to exceed? Right now it seems there's three sensors on the video card (acourding to the app I use, at least) and they range between 55°C and 65°C (roughly 130°F and 150°F). The point of underclocking is to make possible even slower fan speeds and thereby redusing n...

Quite a bit of helpful information, thanks guys. Is it Arctic Accelero S1 Plus or Arctic Accelero S1 Rev. 2 you mentioned? Is it difficult to install? Thanks alot! I'm surprised, I figured my card was substantially less powerful than the ones I mentioned above. But you're saying that's not the case? A dumb question, but how do I see that? I'm invading the SPCR forum. My financial situation leaves quite a bit to be desired and since my birthday and christmas are coming up I figured I'd take the opportunity to improve my computer a bit. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm ambivalent and not quite sure what to do, but it's leaning towards either Seasonic G-450 or maybe Cooler Master V450S. It doesn't seem like I can get Superflower here and I've both good and bad things about Corsair RM series. Gah!

And the next step up cost wise if I would want one that's more quiet would be the Seasonic G-450? I saw the Cooler Master V450S being mentioned in another thread (it was actually about the 550 model though). Any other suggestions?
