What I did was buy the cheapest 6850, then attach an accelero twin turbo pro. The fans are very quiet and they spin slowly.
What sucks about living in NZ is the high prices on everything.

Re: Do underpowered hard drives fail or shut down?
This happened to my system as well. Underpowered hard drives shut down, but their heads are parked in an awkward position and have difficulty starting up. To solve my problem, I put the hard drives in another system as a secondary drive. After a few seconds from boot up, I could access the data stor...

The thing is, NAND isn't cheap to manufacturer, it will take a long time for products like SSDs to become cheap. Either using a more efficient manufacturing process or switching to a different product alltogether.

Re: Odd noise with Seasonic PSU
I'm not an expert on PSUs, but that certainly doesn't sound right. So, the PSU is switched 'on' (the switch on the back of the PSU), but the computer is off. Then the PSU has intermittent noise. Maybe one of the main switches is exposed and charge is building up, but I'm not sure. Check this post: h...

This is what I thought. Of course SPCR can't cut their own cooler, but it should only take 10 seconds to cut off the offending fins with a tin snip.xan_user wrote:if its just the corners of the fan body interfering, how about just cutting the corners off?

Looks exactly like the Seasonic X series. Just look at the modular plugs alone. The thing I'm worried about is that Cooler Master might cheap out on the fan.

Which case are you thinking of? I'm going to build my own case. Due to size restrictions, the most efficient method of mounting a PSU is on its side. Essentially it's a standard ATX case, but put horizontally. The PSU is going to be mounted like this: http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/...

Re: Fanless Power Supply PC Build Guide
Great article, thank you. Just one question, how would a fanless PSU fare in a horizontal computer case. E.g if the intake fan was on the side of the case (if there was a fan) ? Convection could not be relied upon because hot air would be trapped on one side. It would depend on the particular case,...

Anandtech really needs to fire their case review guy. In the Solo II article he was bitching about how the HDD suspension was annoying. Then he shoved a gtx 580 and complained that the GPU was too hot. In his conclusion he said he was disappointed that the case wasn't quiet as he'd have hoped (he re...

ah okay, that sounds like a silent setup. I have a gtx 560, i5 2500k with a large corsair heatsink, nothing overclocked. My cpu temps stay super low due to that fact, but my gtx 560 can get pretty hot during gaming sessions. I also live in south florida so my ampient temps are around 78-80*F which ...

What do you have in your computer? I blocked off 1 and 2 with wood and covered the entire front with acoustipack. Now I use 3 and 4 only. This is because hard drive noise is too loud. I have a gentle typhoon + fanmate at 3 and one of the original fans at 4. I can do this because I have a 6850 + acce...

True, my motorola atrix lasts only a day with moderate-heavy use.
My old nokia gumstick lasted a good 4 days with some calls, although, I only used it for calls. My atrix has all these cool apps and such that drain battery.

Correlation does not lead to causation.
Ces might be right in suggesting that this correlation may be caused by their lack of ability to change.
