Re: Why is Noctua NH-D15S so loud?

All the fans are set to work at 50% for 30C temp, with 3 increments of 10-15 up to 60C temp. Which is probably why it was a problem... I'm using a NH-D15S, and my fan speeds *peak* at 50%. At idle speeds, they're basically set to go as low as they can and still run. Runs pretty quiet and is fine fo...

Re: GTX 1070 purchase advice

The fans speeding up to 100% was a result of user error (a cable keeping one of them from spinning causing the others to spin up to 100%) It's fine now that I fixed it. Actual sound levels are pretty good (and an hour of near-100% load didn't have the fans speed up beyond 45% with the options silent...

Re: GTX 1070 purchase advice

Ok. I figured out what's going on with the Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming GTX 1070.

So, the fans runs at fairly decent speeds at load, but it has a somewhat buzzy sound profile. I probably wouldn't recommend this one.

Re: Best silent case to choose from?

Not on your list, but I'm pretty happy with my Fractal Design Core 500 It doesn't really have any damening material, but quite importantly to silence, it has enough space for a Heligon HE02, which is a 160mm heatsink designed to run passively. I was a bit concerned with the temps when running passiv...

Re: GTX 1070 purchase advice

I don't have one, but I've heard good things about the Palit Jetstream You could always set a custom fan profile to reduce the noise a bit. Just watch those temps. I'll be soon getting a Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming card /w a triple slot cooler (also available where you are). I'll run it through some test...

So, any news on any new slim 140mm fans?

I saw the article about Noctua, and it says that they're coming out with some new ones around end of 2016... but I also found some articles from 2015 which said that they'd come out with slim 120/140mm fans at the end of 2015. Any new/upcoming products that I should look at? Options for fans in this...

Re: Arctic Accellero Hybrid III vs Sea Hawk X?

I went ahead and got a Sea Hawk X The pump itself is pretty reasonable, but the GPU fan is somewhat buzzy. I'll need to pull out the SPL meter to get a reading on it. The radiator fan, IMO, is pretty loud. I immediately replaced it with a Be Quiet Silent Wings 3, which is much more tolerable. With t...

Arctic Accellero Hybrid III vs Sea Hawk X?

I'm looking to build a SFF system with a GTX 1070 (using an NCase M1) I see that SPCR has a build guide where they use the case and put in an Arctic Accelero Hybrid II, so it seems like a good choice for the case (I assume that the newer III would be fine, as well). But, I was wondering, has anyone ...

Re: Does SPCR seem way too obsessive compulsive about noise?

I've always had issues with loud noises. Even when I was a kid, I actively sought out quite places, and when my brother got a drum set... well, that was a nightmarish experience. No amount of distance within the house would silence those. This extends to being a light sleeper, and when I got a job t...

Re: 1U power supply for Evga Hadron case?

I went ahead and got the Seasonic. During gaming, the new PSU does make a bit of a mechanical noise, but the vacuum cleaner is no more. Given the compactness of the system, I'm calling this a success. I also cannot hear it over the case fans when on the desktop, and my video card uses low enough pow...

Re: 1U power supply for Evga Hadron case?

Yeah. That's the case.

90% of what I use it for is media/web browsing. Even idle is louder than I'd like.

Occasionally, I do some gaming on it. During/after gaming, it will start sounding like a vacuum cleaner. I did some testing, and the PSU is considerably louder than the video card.

1U power supply for Evga Hadron case?

The built-in power supply is far louder than I'd like, so I'm looking for alternatives. This one at least matches the dimensions, but I can't find much information about it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151129 The one reviewer seems to like it. Does anyone know what I sho...

Re: Quiet / Noisy Monitor Survey

Is it common for monitors to make occasional loud "pop" noises after/during use?

I've had this issue on most screens that I've had, and it flat-out prevents me from having a PC in the bedroom.

Re: Asus GTX970 STRIX

Has anyone compared the load levels of these vs a card with an Arctic Accelero Xtreme III? (one of the quietest active coolers) I had a card with one, but I switched to Team Green because I wanted a G-Sync monitor, so I got a stock 770 a while ago. Now, I'm kind of torn between getting one of these ...

Re: Best aftermarket cooler that will fit into an mATX case?

The card is a Gigabyte Windforce GTX 770. The volume levels are quite reasonable for a stock cooler, but not as quiet as the Radeon 280x + Arctic Accelero that it's replacing. I know the cards are about the same speed, but I'm interested in some Nvidia-only features like Shield game streaming and G-...

Re: Best aftermarket cooler that will fit into an mATX case?

After adding fans, the Prolimatech Mk26 will be a 4-slot card, also. There's no backplate, so I could fit it on my motherboard, but I'm using the bottom PCI-Express slot for an expansion card, already.

Any other alternatives?

Best aftermarket cooler that will fit into an mATX case?

I've used the Artic Accelero Xtreme products in previous builds, but they replaced the 3-slot Accelero III with a 4-slot version, and the 3-slot version is no longer available. I have no room for the backplate on my motherboard, and cannot find the old version (at least at reasonable prices), so I n...

Re: Coil whine my archnemesis!

I've only experienced coil whine when dealing with extremely high framerates in older games.
Turing on V-Sync should cap your framerate and deal with the issue.

But, if you're dealing with coil whine at typical frame rates, you may have a bad card.
...Though I'd definitely look into V-Sync, first.

AMD HSF that will fit in a Cooler Master Elite 100?

I can't find how large exactly of heatsink that this case will take, but I know that it's too small for the Scythe Shuriken. I'm looking to upgrade my system with either the (out of stock, everywhere) A8-3800, or the 100w A8-3850. The case is rated fro 65w processors, but I'm wondering if anyone has...

Re: FAQ for Newbies -- Identifying the noise sources.

Yeah... It's definitely important to figure out the loudest components.

I had a low powered fan that was making huge amounts of noise just because of the mounting brackets that it was using.
