Wow! I want it!
However, my son is helping me with a new desktop, and he wants to check out one of the Ryzen's. On his dime. Toys are his hobby pastime.

Re: My faithful Desktop Died!
After 10 years my desktop Antec died suddenly. No lingering disease, although had it been that way I might have cleaned out ten years of dust, found the battery and tried it. But now to save and extend its arthritic bones, I would start with the batter--if there is one--and then try a different PSU....

Re: After 10 years a component died suddenly ....
My ten-year-old Antec died suddenly. After replacing a faulty ASUS mini-ATX with an Intel board shortly after the build in 2011, it has run faithfully since. Parts are obviously out of date now, but for grins the basis of the build is Druneau's NSK ... https://silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php...

Re: Is WEB losing its value?
Anyone have a good filter that removes commercial BS from the web search to open up original research, review content? People have suggested Duck Duck Go, but that one is too aggressive for how I search and store. And, it leaves the crap, Google is better refined. I'd ask for a fake news filter, als...

Re: Is WEB losing its value?
No, profit drives the internet, in the USA specifically. Value serves the merchants, not the viewers. The rebuilt regulations of the Trump reign assure this. SPCR is a light from another era that valued performance over profit.

I am convinced. Google Search sends me only to commercial sites, when I look for images.

Re: Is WEB losing its value?
I am very glad of moderators--thank you, Steve--and happy that I can post an off topic subject. My previous posts were focussed on a new computer build and I'm thankful that SPCR was available to guide that build. 8/9 years and going strong. Be proud! Granted, there is important and educational subj...

Is WEB losing its value?
I used to hunt the web constantly for new and inspiring information, user reviews, and scientific knowledge. It is the basic purpose of my having and maintaining a computer. Recently, most of what I find is strapped to a commercial entity either pretending to be a user site, or simply BS with no sci...

Hmmm, a one-year reminder. Now, for an update:
Still cruising in my Antec build. We replaced the ancient monitor with a Dell U2717D. It is troublesome for old eyes at recommended resolution; tiny. I need to update machine spec's.. No plans to replace or join Glowing Zombies with a phone/Mor'.

Re: What to build? The world changed in 8 years....
AMD have always been attractive ... in an economics way. I know, just my bias. But, consider: 1) they are constantly, constantly, being compared to Intel or sold on the basis of gaming. At one time I was jolted to see AMD offered on business stations. I don't give a rip about gaming. On the same han...

Re: What to build? The world changed in 8 years....
Thanks Steve. Just tweaking a few things on the existing build will help considerably. A voice in the background, son, with better handle on these things says I really don't need more than 8th gen. i3 for what I do. Likely, it was the same story 8 years ago. So, with a little l00king I found another...

Re: What to build? The world changed in 8 years....
Thanks for the provoking comment. The NSK build performed its duties quite well. I would be happy to continue as is--if parts did not wear out. The audio plugs have been cranky and more bothersome the past couple years. Dust isn't a surface problem at this age. And, the failing 1280x1040 Lan party m...

What to build? The world changed in 8 years....
I am stepping into the swirly waters of a new computer build. I finished the one listed in my signature line, a couple fixes were made; and everyday I used it. Does AMD still make chips(?)--I am that ignorant. The NSK build was looking at power and memory, since every build preceding quickly lost th...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
Hey, a final taps for this little girl while McCain endures the litany of stroking eulogies and we wait for Labor Day in a few hours. No offence to John. The monitor, which is older than the NSK build is finally seeking horizontal rest which brings up a crusty issue. My Gigabite card has some antiqu...

Hey! It's Christmas Eve, 2016. I'm back!... 4 years and more. Wow!!! And, still spinning. My main machine too. I still think it is over powered. Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
Don’t despair. ASUS is a very popular brand. For some reason. I even like them after all my tribulations. Onward. ... Planning and schematics are very important. [Emphasis!] Even to configuring the possible board schematically prior to purchase. Druneau had his power cable lengths measured. My PSU h...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
Ahhh hhh ... You are taking spatula to clay and sculpting. Correction: file, hammer, and chisel to steel case. I am still licking scars from my efforts. The design for the modifications will tweak the layout in nearly every build. Druneau's board is no longer available. Some things I learned: After ...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
This and previous GPU generations were noted for hot running. Mine was a sort of impulse purchase from the discount stack. Until this one, my experience with fanned cards were they screamed banshees to wake up the neighborhood--the modern equal to chickens and peacocks. The silent alternatives were ...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
Hi, Skree. Just for you, I downloaded and installed MSI Afterburner to get a GPU temperature. There is a pronounced paucity of temperature monitoring from gpu manufacturer's. In the past I was confident that they initiated driver updates just to remove said capability from card- provided software, e...

Re: Software Giants sabotaging small developers?
Compiling code has been a problem for me since 1971. I will suffer a bit of AutoLISP for something I really need, but grew tired of the game when M$ 6.22 lost favor. Bunt with Tar all you want. I am glad you can. Re, Entity X, Y, Z, or Whoever, the curious can check with PDFForge (and the others) to...

Re: Software Giants sabotaging small developers?
That is most unfortunate, that PDF Creator can be downloaded without intrusive garbage ware. They (Sourceforge) have not cleared the problem, and obviously invited it. I will need to get AVG Removal Tool. I didn't need any pesticides, nor repellents, to get a very nice application from the Woolies a...

Software Giants sabotaging small developers?
That subject line has to be making every spam monitor scream! I am rebuilding my computer. Today I tried to download PDF Creator at SourceForge. AVG was an incipient attachment that refused to go away. I flipped both groups off. CNET had two lice stuck to another PDF (free) download. I thought I sho...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
Hi, Switched out boards yesterday. Today I am hunting down my old forums, and struggling to install [correct] programs. A note; I found the Intel DH55tc matx board to be far easier to use than the ASUS board. The only drawback is lack of SATA ports; and the fact that the main cluster is directly und...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
Finally got an Intel 1156 micro board. Not very many are available now. Hope it works... This guy is nowhere near obsolete. Just ASUS. Collecting my OS re-install files. I dread going into that case! BTW, the fan noise is the gpu. Not obnoxious but can be heard, like air "whoosshhing". Low humm. The...

Hey, Just a follow-up... My case is collecting dust bunnies. So it must be time to peel apart plastic and wires for the inevitable cleaning... I also need to send ASUS mobo to junk heaven. I like the simplicity (management) of their equipment, but it is no fun watching parts and pieces fail. This ti...

Sorry. Your guess is as good as mine .... Which is why I copied the reply from HDPLEX to this thread. I think ... 5 and 3 precede 10; 10 being available in August. Purely a guess however.

Availability update from Larry at HDPLEX. Here's a copy of the query and reply: When are your products going to be available for shipping? I notice that the h10, reviewed by SPCR is still in limbo. Hi, H10 batch eta is early Aug. Current batch is H5.S and following by H3. Thanks Larry On Sun, Jun 5,...

Re: Antec NSK 3480 Too Small for Normal/Big PSUs
Just and update: I'm still "building" this machine. I just got sidetracked by other, unrelated, issues. The 600 watt PSU and bluray can co-habit. It's like stretching a pair of cotton jeans to fit "more comfortably." Just fight them into position and let nature conform, eventually. And, I don't like...

Ok, when are any of these cases HDPlex is playing "Tease" with going to be available? The H10 SPCR reviewed back in February is still unavailable. I just sent them a query, but maybe, others here, have already done that.
Thanks
