Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

The gfx cooler cable is connected to a contact on which it says 7V. There's one where it says 12V too, but that makes it spin even faster (which is no doubt obvious to you guys). If that's the case, you can't control the fan speed: the voltage it receives is fixed and can't be changed to change the...

Re: New old passive graphics card to replace my old old acti

Thanks alot! I'm surprised, I figured my card was substantially less powerful than the ones I mentioned above. But you're saying that's not the case? A dumb question, but how do I see that? I mean one is even of the same brand, and the numbers are bigger ( Asus Radeon HD 6450 1024MB Silent ), twice...

The G450 PSU should be more than enough for any non-gaming GPU + "normal" computer. I think it should be enough even for your 4850 GPU. The G350 should be more than enough for a non-gaming GPU, too, and you might be able to save some bucks :) The GPU card with the smallest power consumption (and che...

I think there was a lot of people waiting for a 14 cm fan spcr review, and finally we've got it :)

Hope we can get the TY-140 as well as Bequiets and Noiseblockers reviewed in the next 14 cm fan review.

Great job, thanks a lot!

My laptop is a VGN-Z21 (2.54 MHz duo-core, 4 GB RAM, i5 processor) - quite a fast machine I reckon - yet as I wrote - when using the undervolting programs as described by the thread I referred to there's no difference whatsoever - even if I set the voltages to be very low in the programs .... Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer

I've searched for the higher power model of the super flower series, there are options which are more powerful, but the rating is 80-plus gold instead of platinum, so more heat dissipation and I think a higher sound-level. I have also found 1 platinum edition, but that's the kilowatt edition and co...

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer

I've seen the results from the GTX 680 on SPCR as well, it looks a lot more like the cooler of the HD7950 (dual slot). But I'm not impressed with the results. 85 degrees for GPU and 112 for VRM with a sound level of 17~18 dB is not good enough (for me), and there hasn't even been spoken about OC......

Re: supersilent gaming rig/workflow/surf computer

The ASUS Radeon 7870 w/DirectCU II has been reviewed here at SPCR http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1305-page4.html The idle noise level was very good, but the noise level at load was absolutely unbearable. I assume that the noise level will only get worse as the 7950 dissipates more heat. Asus ...

Re: Mummy wants a new computer

+1 for the G360. Fanless is unneeded, more problematic, and does not provide advantages if you have slow quality fans, as seems to be the case with the G360. If you are not going to tinker frequently, you will be able to live without a modular PSU. BTW, if you really, really want silence, I recommen...

And Windows 7 will partition the SSD so that it is well aligned to 4Kb boundaries.

That's important, failing to do so can impact the SSD performance.

I have both a Noctua and half a dozen of Bequiet Silentwings 140 mm fans, and the Bequiet are quieter. I have retired my Noctua because of them. Re: Noctua NH-D14 or TRUE 120 Black for a 3930k?

Both coolers will be able to cope with the processor at stock speed, as well as with a reasonable overclocking. Of course, the noctua will cool it better, and will be able to do so with less noise if you control the fans adequately, it is a beast. The True is quite good, too, and probably provides a...

Installing a top down cooler with the heatpipes coming out below the CPU socket or the GPU, the performance might suffer a bit. If you have not much case airflow, you might want to zip-tie a pair of very slow 12 cm fans to make it happier: the extra noise will be unnoticeable.

If you can find the BeQuiet SilentWings USC, it runs at 300 rpms with 3.5 V. And they are amazingly quiet, I have 6 (!) of them in my modded case and can't hear them. The 12 cm BeQuiet SilentWings USC is very, very good too: it starts at aprox. 3.5 V, but it is a bit faster, reaching 1500 rpms at 12...

Re: Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus GPU Cooler

Nothing wrong, overclocking does not increase power consumption per se. But, to get even higher overvclocks, you will eventually need to overvolt, and that's what increases power consumption. It is likely you can overclock quite a bit without overvolting, I do: it seems you have a very good overclo...

Re: Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus GPU Cooler

If you are going to overvolt in order to overclock, then consumption will grow real fast and the VRM will have to handle that. I want to insist, because power consumption does increase non linearly with voltage increase. As an example: by moving from 1.088 to 1.193 V one of my cards incurred in a 3...
