The BeQuiets are crazy good and silent. If cash is no issue -> import them.

Re: Any 7970 with factory fitted Artic Cooling?

Beware with the Galaxy card. I currently own it and I ended up removing the AC cooler. It was so noisy, even after a BIOS flash. I've read more posts where users complained at the noise and that when compared to a retrofitted AC it was just not the same. Ive emailed Galaxy about it and thry claimed ...

Re: Question on Fan Control on Afterburner re: MSI 6870

I previously owned the Hawk. In silent mode (switch on card), you can set the minimal fanspeed to below 20%. Do that for idle. Under load try to keep it under 38%. Anything higher will be really annoying. 80c is indeed fine, the Hawk has good durable parts. If you have the option, try to set a graph...

Re: Radeon 7970 aftermarket compatibility?

Ohh that cards is sagging a bit too much for my liking. There arer many cards around with good heatsinks on the vrams (being all GPU's with an aftermarket cooler: Gigabyte, MSI, etc). Its easier to install a AC custom on a card like that. Also, you get much better results if you get creative and str...

Re: Finally a Super Quiet High-end Video Card?

I think most dual fan cards will give about the same noise. Theyre all 92mm fans from a small group of manufacturers which make these worldwide. The difference is usually the fanspeed (bios) and fan profile (like the graph in MSI Afterburner). All the reviews Ive read of the new new AMD 7xxx series ...

Re: Wind Noise From Grills: Caused By Intake or Exhaust??

The worst is actually intake, at least when I tested. I creates some odd backdraft that you can really notice, even at lower voltage (3,5V) with all the elite fans.

I ended up not using a side in take but using the slot in the bottom of my case (Fractal 3000). That solved it.

Re: Please help finding quietest gaming card!

If you want a silent GPU you have 4 options: 1) put your pc in an closed cabinet under your desk -> i am dead serious, there are several desk models that can do this (IKEA) an will solve all your problems (beware of heat though) 2) go liquid, Powercolour has an LCS version of the 7970, that makes it...

Re: 120mm fan that is quieter than Noiseblocker

If all fails, get BeQuiet!'s (no matter which way you look at it, they're the best, sorry). It's the only fan that was bearable for me as a side or bottom intake. Also take not that (side) intake fan is the most difficult position to get a quiet solution for.

I would definately crank up the budget to get a 560TI 448, which is basically a 570GTX. Best value card on the market now. Period. This looks like a very nice deal: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500231 Noisewise it seems very capable: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zot...

Re: Which tool do you use to measure video card temps?

Furmark will do the stresstesting, display temps (also graph them), display GPU voltage, and also display fanspeed as an RPM and a percentage. In short, one app that will do everything you need for measuring. If you need to actually modify settings - that's when you want to progress to MSI afterbur...

Re: Geforce 560 or Radeon 6850/6870

A lot of people like MSI R6850 Cyclone , but i dont have any experience with it to know for sure. If you want the most quiet i would recommend to check PowerColor SCS3 AX6850 1GBD5-S3DH Radeon HD 6850 , personally i wouldn't run it fanless for gaming, i would just strap 120mm low rpm fan with zip t...

Re: Average load powerful gpu vs full load "quiet" gpu

And to answer the OP (almost forgot that): most games nowadays are shameless console ports. They never max out a hight end card on a 1080p resolution. But they will max out a low/mid card and thus make the gpu cooling fans work harder. GPU coolers are usually 92mm wide and the smallest, noisiest fan...

I'm not really interested in mods as that wasn't really the point for this thread but I'll keep it in mind. Re: Average load powerful gpu vs full load "quiet" gpu

I have the exact same card. Had to mod it to 10% to get it quiet at idle. After a while the bios decided 20% was the minimum fan speed for some reason. This was way too loud for me. In the end I strapped on 2 Nexus fans on it at 7V (with tiedbinds). Best thing you can do is IMHO buy this card and g...

Re: Average load powerful gpu vs full load "quiet" gpu

I currently have a gtx 285 and it's been (more or less) quiet enough for me, but lately it's starting to struggle with newer games causing the fan to rev up till it's noisy as hell. So now I'm thinking about getting a new gfx card and comparing all the idle/load noise levels got me wondering what w...

Re: Average load powerful gpu vs full load "quiet" gpu

If you can find a Galaxy GTX 580 58NLH5HS3PXZ , is probably the fastest GPU atm (until the 7970 is out), the galaxy has some good things though, they are using Acelero Xtreme and seutp to idle at 30% fan speed (around 900rpm) where i personally don't hear it, some have flashed the bios to have it i...

I guess it depends on many things (ambient noise, ears, rig, etc) but I also get the feeling that there are some bad AXII's around. Maybe problems with the PWM signal?

Re: How powerful graphics card can i cool quietly?

This baffles me. Inaudiable at 30%? I had to mod it down to 10% on a 580 for the AXII to be quiet. Either my card's bios was different from the start (i.e. my 10% was your 30%) or we all have very different ears :)

I have the cyclone. It's definitely not silent, though generally when I'm pushing the card I also have the sound up, at which point I can't hear it much. At idle it's quiet, but still a bit louder than my computer's baseline (which is nearly silent). All four slots in my case are used, so perhaps I...

Re: How powerful graphics card can i cool quietly?

Tanasssi, what cooler do you suggest putting 120mm-fans on, the stock-cooler? I think i might go for an accelero xtreme plus 2, i get the impression from the thread that a 6950 might be possible to cool at around 700 rpm. It is pwm-cooled, what controls the fans? The bios on the GPU? Can the GPU-te...

Maybe (not totally agree...it depends on what you are doing with you fan, exhaust/intake or rad), but it is discontinued now, replaced by Shadow wings and Dark wings. Re: How powerful graphics card can i cool quietly?

Get creative and remove the fans of the cooler (even so called quiet aftermarket coolers) en strap on a good quiet 120mm fan or two. Lock it at 7v and hurray, quietness.

It works wonders if your case has a decent airflow and it's dirt cheap.

If I'm not wrong, probably the most important difference between you is the BIOS: you're talking of two very different card, and it may be likely that the AC fans are differently driven.
