Re: compatible passive coolers for Rx 550?
thanks. I found out this video where they used a cooler with 40mm holes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XJGIQSavP4&lc=Ugxht6kuP1LeDVY4aWp4AaABAg.97nLklLObRP97nZP7iUn2G Found out those newer arctic ones have 40,2mm holes, unfortunatly here in Brazil I can only find the Arctic Cooling Accelero L2 Plu...

compatible passive coolers for Rx 550?
Hi, I have a Sapphire RX550 in a semi-passive (passive 99% of the time) case. I don't hear it at all, unless I throw up a GPU benchmark (I don't do gaming), but I live 100m from the ocean and I try to go 100% passive. Do you guys know which passive coolers are compatible? or any bigger active cooler...

Re: new MOBO, CPU, RAM and cooler <= 200Euro
How about getting a cheap (or free) used hard-drive to replace that antique instead of trying to absord the noise it makes? You don't have to buy new stuff. Both drives are probably quite noisy but chances are the older one is worse. yea, thats an option. I'll see. I'm not in a hurry, as as I state...

Re: new MOBO, CPU, RAM and cooler <= 200Euro
thanks to both of you. my harddrives are those: WD Caviar Blue (SE16) 640GB WD6400AAKS-00A7B0 Maxtor 6L080M0 (80GB) I found review here for the WD so I guess the noisemaker is the Maxtor. Yesterday before going to sleep (about 1:30 am) I started my PC with HDs unpluged. Result was a totaly quiet PC ...

Re: new MOBO, CPU, RAM and cooler <= 200Euro
I have to excuse myself. It's not the fan but my two harddrives I am hearing. Even that I suspended them I can here the motos wiring. The Sythe fan actualy seams to be much quieter than the HD-motors. Sorry for that, I'm still a beginner. I guess I will buy some foam for my case or even use mineral-...

Re: new MOBO, CPU, RAM and cooler <= 200Euro
OK, maybe I exegerated to much. I'm not sure actualy if I can hear it or if it is just the PSU. I can hear my PC only late at night, after 22h or so, rest of the day ambient noise is higher.....I will test noise with fan disconected. I guess I just expected too much. With case open I can clearly hea...

Re: new MOBO, CPU, RAM and cooler <= 200Euro
so I got the b_tch running. Who said the Scythe Grand Kama fan is quiet? I'm using the smart fan feauture of the MSI-motherboard. Set to 50° target and min-fan-speed of 0. But the fan runs at abou 620 rpm though. While temps in idle are around 35 (without casefans). Why is it running at 620rpm when ...

first time I tried suspending I used non-elastic cord, with the result that a lot of vibrations still got sent to the case via the cords:

Re: new MOBO, CPU, RAM and cooler <= 200Euro
I'll take the MSI-Board.....it's only 1,50 Euro more and seam to have better Bios-feauteres. also I won't need 2 PCIs and having 1 more PCI-e will be an advantage in the future. Also the "better name" And I definitely believe that Scythe sell their own thermalpaste, so why do you need to buy thermal...

So, I dicided to go with Sandy Bridge 2100. I could have a package with the Phenom II x4 965 for the same price but: 1) all phenom2 motherboards I found have Ati onboard or GeForce<8xxx (Ati-driver on Linux is not ideal at the moment) 2) If all say it's very good, there must be a reason 3) half the ...

I forgot to answer. I had bought a cheap second hand GF 6200 and it plays 1080p flawlessly (at least here in Linux).
But as life goes, suddenly i have the opportunity to buy a new board, but that's a new topic: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=63032

So sooner as expected I have the opportunity to buy a new system. I live in Brazil, but since imported things here are more expensive and I will have guests from Germany I'm going to buy my system in Germany. From time to time I run into disk swap... from browser memory leakage. . On my system firefox only blows up if I leave it open a whole day with various tabs open. I will wait until end of year, when I buy new mainboard-cpu-set. I thought requirement would be lower, I wont buy one of those cards for 1/4 of the price of a mainboard+CPU since I'm planing to upgrade anyways.
thanks.
thanks.

I bought the 520 and I am satisfied. I have a Pentium D (known to be "hungry") and fan-speed (and noise) only increases after 10min of full CPU-stress.

What's the most budget video card wich plays high-def. videos AND (you guessed it) doesn't make much noise.
I do no gaming, so the weakest card wich plays high-def videos is perfect for me.
Thanks

I do audio production. At the end of a production it requires rendering, too. But the amount of data is nothing compared to photo or video rendering. The only time I use full CPU-power besides this is when compiling software...but most software is fast compiled, too. My doubt was/is, if for example:...
