A8V with a 3500+, XP-120 with a Nexus 120 fan. I have never seen temps of 40 C or higher. Xarafax is right, the heat pipes just miss the RAM but they DO miss it. I put the XP-120 on the CPU/A8V and then installed the motherboard in the ASUS 3000B case. It went very smoothly. When I look in the case ...

If you would be satisfied with two voltages and 0 volts it is VERY easy. Follow MikeC's article and use a double pole, double throw (DPDT) CENTER OFF toggle switch. Select 12 & 7 or 12 & 5 or 7 & 5 when you wire it.

As tay noted it is not 300w total. If you do a quick look at the 300 watt/120 mm Fortrons on Newegg they put out a lot more power. And I do not see any 120 mm fan Fortrons under 300 watts.

I used the blue E.A.R. mounts on my 3000B. I used pliers to pull the mount into the case (no fan yet), as this stretches the mount, makes it thinner, and it popped right through. I then used needle-nose pliers to pull the mount through the Tri-Cool hole as well. I did it just like Lee did, case fir...

Firefox 1.0.2 released

Well, I put a note down in the Not Silent section but that does not make the list on the homepage. Knowing how many Firefox fans there are here I decided to repost here. Sorry if it offends anyone.

Going to install this soon.

The 40 GB 2.5" Samsungs run about $90 at MicroCenter so if that is cheap enough search for other prices on it. Second choice would be the 3.5" 40 GB Samsung. If it's too expensive look at the weekly specials for the big box stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, etc.) and see what they have after ...

My A8V with an XP-120 and orange Nexus always gave that error with the fan running around 1050 rpm acording to the BIOS. I got tired of hitting F1 everytime and just disabled the monitoring in the BIOS.

IIRC some Nexus fans (orange 120??) will not start at 5 volts. You may need a Fanmate or use a 7v connection.

What socket is that motherboard?

If it's a 478 I would think a Northwood core P4 would be your best bet, if you could find one. Does a Celeron have enough power for what you want the HTPC to do?

Looks the same as the Nexus and since you couldn't read the name once it was in the 5.25" bay, who would know :D As long as the rubber was not harder it should be as good.
Of course there is the point that it is in a hotter part of the case unless you run the PSU duct past it.

You could try Jab-tech and get an 80mm Panaflo L1A (mfg in Japan), a 60 -> 80 adaptor and some 7v and 9v cables or the Zalman 5v & 12v Multi-fan connector or a Fan-mate (my choice). They carry all of these.

I'd push the first one or two "grains of rice" out of the tube and toss it then use the Ceramique behind that. That way, if the exposure to air at the end of the tube changed anything you have gotten rid of it.
