Re: Asus GTX 980 Ti Strix OC Graphics Card
In "The Asus GTX 980 Ti Strix OC is a double threat", is the last "h" intentional?

Re: Asus GPU Tweak
I encountered this thread when searching for info about GPUTweak after installing an ASUS Radeon 7950 DirectCUII TOP today, where the GPU fan is clearly audible, even at the 10% shown in the picture above. The fact is that the 10% is "Duty", not a percentage of maximum fan speed, and the fan is at 1...

Re: Seasonic G360W gold for $60 - Review & Giveaway!
At first I thought it was electrical, sounding more or less like the transformer hum of old, but with the power supply on my desk and running without a load, I get the impression it is produced by the fan, especially as the hum comes on when the fan spins up after switching on, and fades when the fa...

Re: Seasonic G360W gold for $60 - Review & Giveaway!
Based on all the positive comments, I bought two G-450 power supplies, but both of them produce the worst hum I've heard in years. In fact, the hum is the only sound I hear from under the desk where the pc is located. As replacements for Nexus value power supplies, they are complete failures. I wond...

Re: Momentus XT in preference to a Caviar Green?
For what it is worth: I had purchased a Momentus XT 500GB for my laptop, but dumped it because of the horrible resonances it produced (the laptop is a Lenovo T420).

Re: SpeedFan: A Basic Guide to Motherboard Fan Control
It can even be made to run from start-up, the only problem being that it won't show up in the task bar. In my w8 test pc I first configured it to my liking by running it from the desktop, then scheduled it to run silently (the spin-down of the CPU fan shortly after start-up demonstrates that it is r...

Re: New 23 or 24 inch monitor Ultrasharp?
Don't know about other users, but the two 24" Dell ultrasharp monitors we have here produce an unpleasant whine when the brightness is lowered.

Re: Reasons to buy a desktop for moderate use?
Unless you value the mobile features and/or small size of a laptop, it seems to me you can build a decent noiseless desktop with at least comparable performance for a fraction of the cost of a good laptop. And as commented above, a silent, able laptop is a rare thing, if any exist.

Thanks for this review of an interesting case!
On page 3, cable management uses a very special technique: cables are typed down
With respect to the side panels, does the fact that they are thin affect performance to a measurable degree [noise-wise and/or structurally]?

Re: SilverStone Fortress FT02 Revisited
The link to the Antec P280 on the first page is broken (it has a hyphen, antec-p280, instead of the underscore it should have, antec_p280).

Re: Silent UPS
For years, we have been using APC Back-Ups 650; heavy metal, no discernible sound. When a battery of one of these went bad, I decided to trade in the entire UPS for the newer model Back-UPS 650 CS; unfortunately this new model produces a high-pitched whine; while the whine is so high that I can't he...
